“Very nice hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2010

On the down side I agree with the reviewer saying the room was a bit warm, but that's pretty much the only thing not beeing 100% satisfying in my opinion. Room (superior double with extra bed) was very spacious and nice. Great view to the harbour. Bathroom with shower/tub combination. Room had spacious seating area and a large double bed which was very comfortable. Breakfast was very good, didn't stay there for other meals. Easy parking at NOK 75.00 per day (Aug. 2010). The hotel is in center of town, so unless you plan seeing some sights in the outskirts, you're in walking distance to pretty much everything. Staff polite and serviceminded. Will most likely stay again on a later occation.

Had a nice weekend at Rica with family with two kids, 6 and 8. The breakfast was an highlight, great with everything. Big room (superior). Recommend bathing at "Atlanterhavsbadet". The kids loved it.

The hotel is centrally located, has rooms like every other rica hotel, and above average breakfast buffet.

We stayed in a superior room on the 9th floor (norw.) with a view of the bay. Our daghter was 2 years old and appreciated the extra bed, extra towels, and extra shampoo and soap bottles!

However, the nice weather meant that the sun had been heating the room all day making it very very hot, and the one window would only open a few centimeters. This more or less killed the room comfort. We could not find any other means of cooling the room.

We may stay in this hotel again, but would make sure that the room would be in a cooler location / have better cooling options.

It was fairly easy to find the hotel. We parked the car infront of the hotel to take out the luggages, then went to park the car at a parking below the hotel at a charge. Our room was on the 9th floor with a beautiful view of the harbour. Room was quite spacious (had a superior room) with lovely decor. It had one of the few bathrooms that actually had a bath so no complaints there. It has a restaurant and bar for those who wish (we didn't eat there). Restaurants and shopping centre are only about 5 to 10 min by walk. For breakfast there was a very good choice. Had internet access in the lobby however it wasn't free unlike lots of hotels we went to. Overall we were very satisfied with the hotel.

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2009

We arrived in Kristiansund without a hotel booking. We headed for the town centre and basically stopped at the first hotel we spotted to ask if they had a spare double room available. They confirmed they did and we were booked into room 516. This turned out to be a room on the floor above the reception floor with a view out over the harbour.

There was no parking spaces immedaitely outside the hotel reception, so we simply stopped on the road long enough to unload all our luggage before driving around the building to park in the car park between the hotel and the police building next door. The car park was charged at NOK 75 a night and a parking ticket must be obtained from the reception. This can be done after parking, but you may find it more convenient to pick this up from the reception before parking as the ticket must otherwise be brought back to the car within five minutes of parking. There is a two sets of stairs from the car park back to the reception. This is outdoors and there is no lift available. So this is a major inconvenience if you have a lot to carry up from the car or if you have trouble climbing stairs.

The room itself was fairly small, and as is usually the case in Norwegian hotels the "double bed" was made up of two separate beds that had been pushed together. So if you are used to a large double bed with a common matress and quilt then this will be a new experience. The pillows provided are also very small. There was one spare pillow available in the room but this was even smaller than the other pillows. But apart from this we found the beds to be quite comfortable.

It had been pretty warm during the day, and we found that the lack of air condition or any active ventilation was a problem. The window could be opened but didn't really make much of a difference as the weather was pretty calm.

The bathroom was also small, but was of a simple standard. But everything worked and were in a reasonable condition.

The hotel has a restaurant and also a bar, although we didn't use them as we arrived late in the evening and had already eaten dinner. The breakfast buffet was quite nice, although you will be disappointed if you are expecting a full cooked breakfast. But if you are OK with the typical Norwegian breakfast which mainly consists of open sandwiches, then there isn't much to complain about.

We decided to go for a short walk before going to sleep. It turned out that the hotel was conveniently placed. There was perhaps a five minute walk to the central area around where the ferries to the other islands leaves. There are some bars and restaurants in the area, so there is no problem finding some alternatives to the hotel if you feel like it. There is also a supermarket across the road from the reception.

The room rate included a free Wi-fi internet connection, and we found this to work pretty well.

All in all the hotel is really pretty average. But then it is a three star hotel and the price is pretty reasonable (for Norway, that is), so as usual you get what you pay for. We found the location pretty convenient and the staff to be efficient and quite friendly. What we didn't like was the parking, the "double bed" that isn't a double bed, and the small size of the room.
