“Fantastic place to visit”

Kristiansand Kanonmuseum
Reviewed 30 September 2016

We were on a cruise ship and made our way on public transport (really easy) to the Kanonmuseum which is a fantastic little place to visit. You can go round the canon that is still left and get a really good insight into what it was like. You can then wander around the place and see some other disused buildings. Unfortunately, the train wasn't running on the day we went which was disappointing but overall well worth a visit.

Hi!
It is so good to see that you found the visit interesting. I am sorry that the train was not running, the cause was probably needed maintenance.

Have a good day!

Our second visit to the museum, not much has changed but still an interesting tour. Very friendly staff to greet you and helpful too. Our boys loved the fact that they can roam and climb over all the existing structures. Amazing views once you are on top of the Cannon housing. A lovely walk through the woods but most of the buildings left are either ruins or have no access. We think it value for money just for the historical significance.

Very nice, interesting and informative. Been there with my parents and grandparents. We walked along the amunation train tracks and saw many hidden bunkers.
Eveything in the main bunker (Entrance) is like the germans left yesterday... We been in another big bunker aswell with torch lights which looked like yesterday they left. It was very nice to see, very untouched.

Only disappointing thing was the toilets, you use the old bunker original toilets from the soldiers which were mens.
So when you sit as woman there and men visitors come in, it's unpleasant.

Hi

Thank you for a nce review. We are pleased when our guests have a good experience. When it comes to the toilets, yes they are poor, but the door may be locked so you can do your business in peace, no matter what sex you are.

Have a nice day.

We have driven by this hidden gem dozens of times, and so glad we finally stopped to visit.

During their occupation of Norway during WWII, the Germans built bunkers and housing for four gigantic cannons in anticipation of an Allied attack. One of the cannons is on display. This is unlike any cannon you've ever seen. It is massive!

There are simple handouts in Norwegian and English, with translation of the German mottos painted on the walls.

I wish the weather was better and that we had more time to take the train ride and explore the grounds.

We will come for a longer visit next year when we are in town, and will bring hiking shoes and wind jackets.

Hi Gayle G,

thank you for a great review of the museum. I am sorry to hear that you did not have enough time to explore all of it, but you are more than welcome to visit again.

Hope to see you next summer!
