As a former military area this place is now a beautiful close to city centrum nature area.

There are different walking paths and at the far back and on the top of Odderøya you will have a panoramic view of the sea and small islands.

Also you will see the lighthouse from here and probably some sailboats.

As you pass the fish market and cross the bridge, follow the painted footsteps to enter the island (if you go far right beware of cars.)

It's about 3km of a mixture of pavement paths and gravel trails with steep hills. Don't be afraid to go off the path. I recommend to check out the beaches, take in the view, check out the ducks and the birds. There's a few swans, not the friendliest, but beautiful to watch from afar.

There are huge carpenter ants (by the hundreds) so be careful where you stop to take photos.

The cannons are no longer in place, but you can still enjoy the structure and great for views of the water as they are higher.

There's a cafe (open Sundays) but take a bottle of water and you'll be fine.

I enjoyed this hike very much and highly recommended if you are physically up for it.

We enjoy the area of Odderøya when we want to go for a walk close to the city. A few other nice alternatives are Ravnedalen or Baneheia.

Just across a small bridge bear the harbour of Kristiansand you find peaceful and scenic walking areas with a historic toutch as well. Odderøya used to be a fortress and military area up to rescently. The view is amazing

When I lived in the center of K-town this was the best way to escape from the vibrant and noisy town. You get a wonderful view, fresh ocean air, and nice hiking trails just ten minutes from Ktown city center.
