An unusual place in such a residential area. Just take bus 46 from Majorstuen to grimelundsveien.

The paintings are amazing, and interesting more and more reveals utself when your eyes adjust to the darkness. Very special experience.

Children should not be allowed inside. Yiu are not allowed to speak but there was a child of around 4 there with her grandparents who were whispering which was very audible with the acoustics.

I’ve been around.
NEVER have i’ve had a museum experience like this.
Dark ? Yes. (be patient)
I have visited the place 4-5 times.
Everytime it gives you something new.
It takes me a full 45-50 minutes to recognize all the details.
So please - for your own sake: take the time necessary to get the full experience.
It’s run by an idealistic organisation.

This place was a huge surprise. I was brought here by my father and I had no idea what to expect! When you get on the inside of the mausoleum, it is dark as in a coffin. The echo from the heavy entrance door bounces in the walls. Little by little, when your eyes gets used to the dark, you start recognizing the mural in the ceiling and on the walls around you. Emanuel, simular to his more famous brother Gustav Vigeland, has also captured the circle of life in his art work and after walking around in the dark you get to see new details the more you look. It’s a beautiful piece, dark in many more ways than just the lack of light. It is a bit far away from the touristic route, but you will get an experience very different from what you’ve ever seen before. Notice that it’s only open between 12.00-16.00 on Sundays!

My first visit was a thrill... not only the paintings itself (it`s demonic and massive and...) but also the ambience in the room... a darkness that surrounds u that becomes lighter when getting used to it, sucks u into the world of Vigeland that is in all ways a mentally dark, very dark one... and highly interesting... The soundscape coming from not uttering a sound (do NOT talk in there, the guards said to us before entering), but allows u to play with a HRMMM or a cof that makes a difference in that room... echoing between the walls, I was stunned.... Beautiful darkness!
