“Great but expensive hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

Rooms are large and kinda old fashion, but modern at the same time. Booked a standard room and got a huge room with a huge bathroom. Didn't ask if i got an upgrade or what, but i think all the rooms are pretty large.

Pros:
- Amazing bed
- Breakfast
- Great place to stay during winter

Cons:
- Expensive
- Expensive breakfast
- Far from down town (15-20 min with taxi)

We booked this hotel as part of our mini cruise with DFDS to Oslo, and spend one night. We were 2 families with kids and a senior couple, and we all found this hotel to be a great choice. The food was very good, and the pool area was nice and big. The rooms was very big and as a family of four we were giving 2 rooms that were connected by a door. It was perfect

Getting to this renouned hotel is a bit of a journey, especially if you go by metro. From the metro stop to the hotel there is quite an uphill walk, which can be cumbersome with luggage. Though most people choose this hotel for the view, not its proximity to Oslo centre. The hotel is in itself a mix of old fairy-tale, 80s concrete block and modern extentions. I got a spacious recently renovated room, arranged with twin beds, which were very narrow. The view from the room was great, as you expect from this hotel. The bathroom had a bath tub, and showed marks of wear (probably renovated in the early 90s). My purpose for staying at this hotel was a conference, which were held in the older part of the hotel. One of the conference rooms were very small, and quickly became stuffy and warm which is not productive for a meeting or conference. Also all the extentions made this hotel a bit of a maze to get around. As for the food the breakfast was good, with a great variety of breads, though the cold cut selections were fewer than expected in a Norwegian hotel. They served a more international breakfast selection of beans, bacon, eggs, hash and pancakes. The lunch buffet was inventive, and quite superb, serving tapas style dishes, rather than the traditional hotel buffet. All in all, a hotel one choses for the view and closeness to outdoor areas, rather than its distance from the centre of Oslo.

Room Tip: Great view, superb lunch buffet, long and steep walk from metro stop, maze-like hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in January 2011. This hotel in located on a very quiet hill outside Oslo, and if you get a fjord view room you will be amazed. The views are the best in Oslo, no matter what the weather. I was lucky to be upgraded to a fjord view room, and if was spacious and well equipped. The restaurant is one of the finest in Oslo, and the breakfast the best I've had in Norway. However the hotel is, in my opinion, more interested in conference groups than leisure travellers and the staff, though helpful, were overworked. Often I had to wait at reception for over 15 minutes when I had a query only to give up because the few staff on duty were dealing with a large conference. the hotel is very expensive, even for Norway, and I would recommend staying at a more central hotel and taking advantage of the great public transport if you want to ski.

This hotel looks great and authentic from the outside, It has a landmark facade. Once inside however the look deteriorates and transforms in many different styles all giving a bit of an outdated feeling. Staff are friendly. You're lucky if you get a room with a view, because if you can look out of the hotel the view is stunning both in summer and winter. Rooms are rather small with litte space to store your stuff and luggage. Bathroom efficient but small. The food is great and atmosphere is like family room in their top restaurant with superb local dishes. Their other restaurant is rather mass treatment. Efficient and optimal if you look to organise something of a meeting combined with outdoor stuff. Old school and overpriced to my feeling.

Room Tip: Try ask for a room with a view on Oslo City.
