“Lovely hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights and were very satisfied. Room was typical size for a European hotel (i.e., small) but very comfortable, elegant, and clean. Washcloths provided - a plus and not always done in Europe. Expresso machine was nice. Lobby and restaurant well decorated with great and unusual art work. Especially love the lighting in the lobby. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was good and they would cook eggs to order. Loved the location as it was close to the Museum quarter and easy to get to the U and S bahn stops. The spa was amazing, with aquarium, lighting, sauna, steam room, and fantastic shower.

The hotel is part of the small luxury hotels network and is set on a quiet street just off the main shopping street and the museum quarter. Included in the rate was internet, breakfast and use of a nespresso machine. I was in what looked like a small attic room at the top of the hotel. As such the room was small with no view. The room had a twin bed which I found difficult to sleep on. Breakfast is in a small room on the ground floor. This doubles as restuarant for dinner but looks unappealing for this. Staff service is friendly and good. There is no gym but a sauna is available for bookings. Overall for a short trip this is an acceptable hotel for the price point if you are on busines or a quick sight seeing excursion.

Dear Mr. Wells,

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a customer review and let us know your feedback about your experiences. We are very happy to read that you enjoyed the good and quiet location on the shopping mile Mariahilferstrasse so near to all major museums. Thank you for commending the friendliness of our staff, good breakfast, free Nespresso service, free WLAN and our private spa.

Regarding the remarks about your room we would like to comment on as follows:
You reserved a double room for single use which we provided at your arrival. As you did not let our receptionists know about your unhappiness with this room, they could not help with a change of rooms. If guests tell us their wishes we always do our utmost to make them satisfied with their stay at the Tyrol. We have now noted in our file that you don't like our atic rooms (we have 3 out of 30).
We are also very sorry that you did not like the view to our neigbor house vis-à-vis. To tell the truth: Neither do we! Unfortunately we do not have any influence on the aesthetic presentation of our house vis-a-vis and so we are unable to affect any changes.

There are two other details we would like to get clear: We do not offer any restaurants or gym in our Small Luxury Hotel because there is not enough space for it. Fortunately we are situated in the middle of Vienna and everything is really in walking distance. And in adition we offer a small menue with italian dished to be served in room.

We truly hope that we will welcome you again in the future.

Thank you and best regards,
Helena Ramsbacher

Das Tyrol is a very small hotel located just up the hill from the MuseumsQuarter. Despite its location on the very busy Maria Hilfer Strasse our room was always quiet. The staff was very helpful in providing directions and suggestions for the best public transit routes to reach your destination. Rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast room, decorated with unusual art, was cute. Breakfast was the standard bread, pastry, fruit, yogurt, cheese and hams, all fresh and very good. From the hotel it was a very short walk to the Hofburg, its gardens, the museums and St. Stephens. It is also very close to the tram and U-bahns giving you access to all of Vienna, Schonbrunn Palace and the Airport for the cost of a multiday pass. A really great place to stay to visit Vienna.

Room Tip: The lift is tiny and there are a lot of stairs. This was no problem for us, but some people might w...

My husband and I, being seniors, found this fantastic hotel in the perfect location for our 3 night stay in Vienna. We could easily walk to the U-bahn and the Hofburg sights. We did, however,
take a taxi to and from the Westbahnhof rail station, as it would have been quite a hike for us pulling our suitcases (under $10 euros each way). We especially loved the breakfasts with the
made-to-order omelets and my caffeine free expresso coffee. I was happy to have wash cloths,
which most hotels in Europe do not have. We had a superior room and found it to be very roomy,
with luggage stools at the end of the beds (very smart idea). I will have to say that the beds were
hard, as was every single bed in Austria and Germany on this 2 week trip. I learned to ask for an extra comforter or sheet, that way I could sleep on the soft comforter. Everyone was extremely
friendly and helpful, especially Betinna and Manuel. This luxury hotel would be our first choice if
we are staying in Vienna again and we would highly recommend it to everyone.

Room Tip: Superior rooms are great choice.

A nice hotel and in a good location as other reviewers have mentioned. Heaps of shops and cafes only metres away from front door entrance. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room was spacious with quality furnishings, and clean. Windows could be opened which was great and we also had a small patio overlooking the main street. There was a bit of street noise during the early hours though. Breakfast was adequate, and was included in the room rate. Car parking is just a two minute walk across the road from the hotel, at 18 euro per day, and is arranged by reception staff.

I loved the winding staircase up to the rooms, however there is a small elevator which can accommodate a few people...depending on how much luggage you arrive with, it might take a couple of trips in the elevator to get everything to your room, however staff will help you so no worries there.

The only issue I had was on the second day, when we received a fresh set of towels...I went to use one and found some small stains on it, I checked the others and most of them had stains on them too. I do not doubt that the towels weren't washed, however all linen needs to be spotless, and especially as the towels and bed linen at Das Tyrol are white, it is important that 'set' stains are removed, however the towels from the first day were fine.

Dear TCSSouthAustralia,

Thank you very much for taking the hime to write a customer review after your stay at The Tyrol. We are very happy that you liked the location of our hotel, the good room size and the breakfast. Thank you also for the good valuation of our services like the garage handling and the friendliness of our staff.

Of course we were very concerned to read, that a set of towels had stains on it. We are awfully sorry and would like to apologize for this problem. When we recognize stains, of course we sort towels or bed linen out, sending them back to our laundry. You are right expecting spotless towels and bed linen. Now we (hotel + laundry) started to double check all towels before putting them into our guest rooms.

I would also like to apologize again for the situation with the towles and thank you for your understanding.

We truly hope that we will welcome you again in the future.

With best regards
