“Adequate, bring extra toiletries”
Reviewed 15 July 2012

The hotel is located near the Praterstern metro/train station, which has U2 (violet) line service into the city center. The U1 (red) line is out of service below Schwedenplatz, making this hotel slightly less conveniently located than expected at the time of booking.

When I booked my trip to Budapest, Vienna and Prague, I endeavored to spend roughly the same amount per night on lodging in each city. And so I reserved at Austria Classic Hotel Wien. With an unexpected upgrade at check-in, we took a room with air conditioning. The beds were not very comfortable, and the comforters were very dense. But the AC cooled the room very quickly, the bathroom was large, closets and shelves for luggage were abundant, and breakfast was included. We ate breakfast at the hotel daily. The selection was sufficient, and included what I assumed to be store-bought versions of Austrian cakes, including Sacher Torte and poppy seed strudel.
Overall, we loved Vienna, but for our next visit, we will plan to spend more at a more luxurious and centrally-located hotel.

The ' Classic Hotel Wien ' lived up to my expectations after i had perused its very good website, displaying a neat, polished and ornate exterior and confirming that the old adage ' first impressions are lasting ' holds true. The hotel is on the northern end of Praterstrasse, a very busy main throughfare from the Schwedenplatz transport hub in the centre of town to the Praterstrasse area with its very large park and fairgrounds and is just about 1/2 mile south of the Danube river. Transportation to the hotel is very easy as it has a taxi rank 30 seconds north of the entrance, tram routes passing along Praterstrasse and is only 5 minutes walk between two U Bahn stations ( Nestroyplatz to the south and Praterstrasse U Bahn & S Bahn to the north ) thus ensuring that you can get to the city centre very easily.
The hotel itself has a very ornate foyer, with helpful staff ready to help you with any advice that you seek including arrangments for booking various excursions during your stay. The breakfast area is very large with indoor and outdoor tables and the food itself is varied, plentiful and of good quality with the usual forray of continental buffet type meats and salads, breads and cakes. The outdoor area can be used after breakfast to sit and relax over a beer or two and is open until 10:00 ( there is also the indoor bar area to use after this time ). The room was plush with all the mod cons that help you find total relaxaton and comfort during you stay with an ' open ' shower and bathroom area ensuring that there is plenty of room for all you grooming needs. There is a first floor terrace with a large chess board built in to the tiled floor which makes for a nice photoshoot. I would like to mention one member of staff in particular for his friendliness in making guests feel welcome and that is a young man named Christov, who went out of his way to make me and my partner feel relaxed and comfortable and he should be complimented in showing an attitude that is an example to anyone working in a service industry. The only downside if there is one is that i would not recommend staying out too late around the area just north of the hotel ( Prater station or parkland ) as it is rundown with a lot of drunks and homeless which may cause some people to feel anxious ). This hotel is to be recommended for anyone who likes to stay in comfort during their vacation, i would stay here again.

Room Tip: you may be able to upgrade for a very reasonable price if the hotel is not full, just ask at the des...

I'm not great at reading maps, so I wasn't sure how far this hotel was from downtown Vienna it was when I booked it. Turns out it is in a great location. First off, it's absolutely easy to reach the hotel from the airport. The S-Bahn station at Praterstern is 5 a 5 minute or less walk to the hotel. The staff at the reception desk was extremely helpful and let us check in quickly when they learned we had just gotten off a transatlantic flight. The room was nice, comfortable bed, and had a safe, which is always convenient. Free wifi was very nice. Breakfast was included, and it was great. Overall the hotel was clean and quiet. The neighborhood is nice and offered plenty of options for drinks and dinner. It was a short and pleasant walk of maybe 15 minutes across the bridge to downtown Vienna. Overall a nice experience.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor facing the street. Since we slept with the window open, there was s...

Stayed for 5 nights in July 2012 while attending medical conference. Staff very helpful. Close to station and metro. Close to Prater. Air-conditioned good sized rooms - even has a bar fridge - not common in Europe. Breakfast more than adequate. Luggage storage. Free WiFi in hourly blocks.

Room Tip: If you want a twin not a double make sure you specify on booking but changed without any drama
