Owner description: The two Belvedere palaces were built in the early eighteenth century by the famous Baroque architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt to be used as the summer residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736). One of Europe’s most stunning Baroque landmarks, this ensemble – comprising the Upper and Lower Belvedere and an extensive garden – is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Today the Belvedere houses the greatest collection of Austrian art dating from the Middle Ages to the present day, complemented by the work of international artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, and Max Beckmann. Highlights from the holdings Vienna 1880–1914 are the world’s largest collection of Gustav Klimt’s paintings (including the famous golden Art Nouveau icons the Kiss (Lovers) and Judith) and works by Egon Schiele and Oskar Kokoschka. Key works of French Impressionism and the greatest collection of Viennese Biedermeier art are further attractions on display at the Upper Belvedere.

We took a bus tour in Vienna and I would highly recommend it. The bus played a lively selection from Mozart in the background as a recorded tour guide pointed out the highlights of Vienna. We went to the Belvedere Museum and it was fabulous! Many famous paintings were there and I was struck by the Klimt painting "The Kiss" which was larger than I had envisioned and quite beautiful .I also enjoyed seeing Napoleon on Horseback after Austerlitz , it was massive and awe inspiring! I really enjoyed my tour of The Belvedere and would advise anyone visiting Vienna to go!!

And some other very good pictures. But with The Kiss this really is Klimt central. The palace is lovely and kept in very good condition. Look especially at the variety of wooden floor. In April few flowers were out but by June the place will be spectacular.

Worth the trip to see this palace and it's beautiful manicured grounds. You can pay extra to see the gardens too so could end up spending a few hours wondering around. Another of Vienna's beautiful buildings which is accessable on the metro.

This winter palace is beautiful and it is nice to be able to read a bit of history about the rooms while you are enjoying the art. This is a must see if you like Klimt! Grounds are beautiful as well-wish we could see it when it is in bloom.
