“Location and staff make this hotel stand out from the rest.”
Reviewed 4 May 2012

Step out of the lobby, turn right, and you in the very centre of the town with markets, shops, restaurants and attractions all within minutes. We stayed at another hotel when we returned the following year and Kaiserin Elisabeth was fully booked (we picked a national holiday - who knew?!) so we ended up in a different hotel which was fine, but the extra 20 minutes turned any trip into a bit of a trek, and the smiley but not entirely helpful staff made us realise which hotel we really wanted to be in!
A key luxury of this hotel is the staff - looking like the lost english tourists we were, the concierge were incredibly polite, friendly and helpful. There was no bullying into going to set attractions, but recommendations based on what we said we were looking for in terms of budget and atmosphere.
When we said we wanted to go visit the "James Bond Ferris Wheel" we were given meticulous directions but the added touch was some personal advice not to go that evening, but leave it to the next day. While we were adamant that we wanted to go it was out of town and therefore could be a little unsafe, so the concierge said he would feel happier if we went during the daylight hours :) It was really nice compared to just being given directions and heading out into the evening without this extra local knowledge.
Staff and location aside, I cannot fault the hotel for comfort, cleanliness and facilities. As another reviewer said, the breakfast is rather good too!

This hotel offers top quality service and location. Staff extremely professional, friendly and helpful. Whatever you need, they immediately respond. Breakfast is terrific. Location within easy walking distance of most sites of interest.

Room Tip: Hotel is on a quiet street so room location not an issue.

I really enjoyed this hotel. I'm not sure why it's not ranked higher on TA. It's perfectly located in the altstadt steps away from anything you'd want to do. My room even had a view of the steeple of St. Stephens. The room and the bath were spacious, well appointed and quiet. The front desk staff could not have been more helpful. The breakfast was my best breakfast experience on this trip. After the first day the server remembered my coffee order and my room number - it was a very civilized way to start the day. If I have to be picky, my only complaint would be the wi-fi connectivity: if idle for more than five or ten minutes you had to go through the log-in process. I'm sure the hotel can fix that easily enough as it's just a setting. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: I stayed in a room facing the courtyard which seemed to be a quiet choice.

This hotel is very comfortable and has a touch of class. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were very good indeed. The location is great - very close to the Stephansplatz and Kärntner Strasse. We found we could walk everywhere. We went in late June when all the outdoor cafes were open, which gave the place quite a buzz. I'd love to go back in winter next time.

Unforgettable experience
Breakfast beautiful, silver cutlery, staff remembered our preferences the first day and following 6 mornings were serving us coffee with double milk, double coffee little milk, hot chocolate etc (there were 5 of us). The best coffee I’ve ever had – could be due to Vienna water but not even Sacher could match it. Next time will ask about it
Very clean and quite, nicely warm in the middle of the Austrian winter. Loved it
