We started at the school with our older daughter in 2006. The little one joined the course 2 year after, too. First time in 2015, and from then on every year, Gamsleiten 2 is also part of the program. It seems to be proven that the training is effective...:)
Our daughter has been skiing for 5 years but this was our first time in Obertauern. Unlike other Austrian resorts, there is no one centralised ski school here. We chose CSA as it was close to our hotel. But as lots of the ski schools meet at the same place it made little difference.
The first day was bedlam. Nobody seemed to be in charge or know which group to put the new kids into. Lessons are supposed to start at 10:00 but it was at least 10:30 every day before the groups left. Obviously if you only have a 2h morning lesson booked this sucks. We spoke to the teachers about this but it made no difference.
Group size is way too big for effective teaching. One group had 14 kids in it! Small kids too - the age that need looking after on the mountain so they don't go AWOL.
Children are continually swapped back and forth between groups so there's no coherency throughout the week. One day your group could have 6 kids, the next day 12. Our teacher changed twice throughout the week too. It was hard for the adults to keep track, let alone small children.
On the final day there's a slalom race that's bang in the middle of the morning at 11:00. And then a medal presentation at 14:00. You can kiss goodbye to that day of skiing! We went along but our kid didn't even get a medal as they didn't have her on the list (after 4 days of ski school). Great organisation guys.
Oh, and don't expect a refund. They don't care.
There are loads of ski schools in Obertauern. Go elsewhere.
This is our 5th year to Obertauern and our second year to book ski lessons for our now 10 year old with this company. Each time we have booked online at least two months in advance. In spite of that last year they cancelled a lesson and at 19.40 last night they cancelled a lesson for today at 11am. This is not just about cancellation of a lesson but it also takes away the two hours when we as parents could ski together and have some free time.
SIMPLY- if this company cannot organize their booking schedule then they are to be avoided.
CSA don’t just cause upset to your holiday but we have now decided that next year we will go elsewhere. Bad for Obertauern.
Our son had 15 students in his no-limits ski group yesterday, the first day of the new skiing week! They promised extra teachers would be added... today (the second day), we hoped things would be solved, as the ski-teacher had promised yesterday afternoon. But... up until lunchtime, he had a group of about 20 to 25 students! Incredible!
We chose this school because of the promise that the ski classes would consist of a maximum of 8 - 10 students...
They definitely cannot handle things in high season.
Quite disappointed. It’s a lot of money for a whole week of day long ski classes...
As a couple, we arranged in advance of our Holiday to Obertauern, Lessons on 3 separate days (one full & two half days) with CSA Skischule Silvia Grillitsch. The Office staff were very friendly & helpful at all times in answering any queries &, sorting out an amendment to the original timetable.
Our Ski Instructor was Flo. He was exceptional. Very patient & understanding, friendly & encouraging and, had solutions for any of our problem areas. He greatly improved our Technique &, confidence resulting in our ease of progress from Blue to Red, Runs.We will return to Obertaurern &, look forward to continued development with this Ski School, who we would recommend.
We hired guides for three mornings. The first two sessions were in minimal visibility so the guides took the opportunity to improve all our techniques noticeably which meant by the time the sun came out we were really able to enjoy our skiing.
There was a mix up on the first day when the instructor came prepared for a day of off piste ski touring but this was all resolved smoothly. The guides( particularly Andrej) and the office staff could not have been more helpful.
