This hotel is perfect if you are arriving in Graz by train.....just across the road from the main station. A one minute walk takes you to the tram line that runs very regularly into town. Even if you wanted to walk, it would only take around 10 minutes, but there is nothing much to see until you are a few hundred meters from the main square.
The staff at reception are mixed. On checking in there was no real warmth or welcome, but later when asking about the internet and an socket adapter they were much more "human".
The rooms, while clean and comfortable, look as though they are a throwback to the 70's with brown and green colours and just a wee bit depressing and not welcoming. This hotel chain seriously needs to consider its colour schemes (slightly ironic when the name is Austria Trend.... as it simply isn't and that Graz considers itself to be a design centre)
We had two single beds which was a let down when we asked for a double and the pillows were pretty terrible. For some reason the room was also quite warm even though it was still spring outside.
With a room at €75/night it wasn't too bad. I've stayed in better and stayed in worse.
Main tip - for breakfast go next door to the Granola which is much better value than the hotel
