“best view ever and everything handy - what more could you want?”
Reviewed 13 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Apartment is within a couple of mins walk of bus terminus, waterfront, ferries and all the main sights and shops of Valletta. It is spacious and comfortable with everything you need. Valletta doesn't do supermarkets but the Wembley Store just 5 mins walk away has everything you will need. Apartment in a very old and historic part of the town so when you climb the 48 steps and open then shutters by on will think you've died and gone to heaven. seriously. Breakfast on the balcony is just the perfect way to start the day. Jasper was so helpful when we arrived and showed us around and made sure we had everything we needed. A visit to the family estate at Villa Bologna is highly recommended and the ceramics are so unusual and quirky. lunch at Melita Garden in Attard also highly recommended. Valletta is quiet in March with choice of restaurants limited but still some great places to eat out at very reasonable prices. Good local wine too. Can't wait to come back.

“Much better than any hotel...”

I can't really add much to previous reviews. This is a lovely apartment with fantastic views in a superb location. You would never get so much space and so large a balcony in a hotel for anywhere near this price - and a welcome pack of bread, milk and water!. There are lots of places to eat out in Valletta, and we pre-ordered a grocery delivery from Maltasupermarket.com so we had all we needed for breakfasts and snacks. I'd recommend this apartment to anyone.

“Comfortable, Central and the best view in Valletta”

My wife and I stayed in this lovely apartment for 9 nights. Our host Jasper de Trafford was very responsive and helpful. The apartment is spacious, well furnished and decorated. The bed had a new and very comfortable mattress. It is also a beautiful space with 16 foot ceilings. The french doors open onto a balcony high up above Grand Harbour with a stunning view of the historic Three Cities and of the medieval fortress of Saint Angelo across the bay - even better than the pictures we saw in advance. While the balcony is narrow it is a fantastic place to eat out and just to sit and watch the constant marine traffic: fishing boats, work boats, huge freighters, super yachts, cruise ships - even a Chinese naval task force came in for an official visit while we were there!

It is also a wonderful central location. The main Malta bus terminal with buses to all parts of the island is less than a 10 minute walk away. All of Valletta is in easy walking distance ( though some of the streets are actually staircases) as are water taxis across the Grand Harbour and to Sliema. A wide choice of excellent restaurants are also in easy walking distance although our favourite from our last visit to Malta continues to be Santino Restaurant across Marsamxett Bay in Sliema.
We would love to return to the Captain's Suite for another visit!

“The views, the location, the layout of this flat... perfect. The bed, awful.”
Reviewed 7 December 2012 for a stay in October 2012

As Valletta is so beautiful, especially at night when the horrible big cruise liners have left it, this apartment would be the perfect place for a couple to enjoy the city and the island in plenty of nice space. The layout of the flat is superb and the size, excellent.

BUT. There is always at least one "but". In this case there are two.

1) The old bed. Very bad. Not only narrow for a double but very short and with footboard, so impossible for tall people. The old sagging bedbase under the mattress had been patched up with two rigid boards that creaked very noisely at every turn. Mentioned this to owner before we left. Hope he replaces soon as he said he would. It is a must!

2) The lack of cooling air. Not promoting aircon, as I am against that too. But a noisy single floor fan is not enough at night. A couple of good ceiling fans in bedroom and living room would make a heck of a difference in the hot months (and it was still really hot in October). The moving air would also keep mozzies at bay.

Two "buts" that are really, really easy to fix. As soon as they are, I'm giving it five stars.

Because we loved everything else about this flat. There are stairs all over Valletta, so climbing two storeys to the apartment is quick to get used to, and the location right by the Grand Harbour is absolutely fantastic (noisy at night).

The apartment itself retains all the great advantages: tallest ceilings imaginable, ample space, old floor tiles, great double doors, two sofas (although one is leatherette and unsuitable for hot climate; the other had a removable cover that really needed washing). The washing facilities, btw, are great, as not just washing machine but tumble dryer is also provided. Essential, when you think of it, as there is nowhere to hang washing. Also useful if you want to provide yourself with fresh linen and towels during your stay, as there are no second sets. There were no beach towels either (we had taken our own as no luggage problem with Air Malta, but it would be useful to find them there).

The recommended taxi company the owners prebooked for me worked perfectly: good driving, good car and no waiting. Price same as getting one at the airport. Useful to get to the place as it is very easy to miss the righ turning till you know the area. We later used the same company when we hired a car for the last few days. The roads in Malta are awful. Keep that in mind if you hire a car.

Parking in old Valletta is impossible... unless you are staying in the old city. Parking places get full during the day, but you can park without any problems just under your balcony when you return from your day trip, as the commuters have all gone home.

There is a telephone in the flat for receiving calls and you can buy a prepaid card if you want to make any.

No supermarkets in old Valletta. If you plan to eat at home, ask the owners where to get provisions. All kitchen implements are provided and you have a great size dining table with one of the best views ever!

Management Response

Thank you for your review.
You will be pleased to know that we now have new beds, which dont squeak and dont have a foot rest so even the tallest visitors will be very comfortable!
Unfortunately air conditioning is not an option for us as there are restrictions in Valletta. We do however supply freestanding fans which are usually satisfactory.

“Magic view, charmful, clean and spacious flat with nice welcome”
Reviewed 2 August 2012 for a stay in July 2012

I highly recommend this apartment which has a good location overlooking the grand harbour and close to the shops, bus terminus and historic sites in Valletta. Very comfortable and clean with all amenities but no air conditioning. Very spacious rooms. Very careful housekeeper who gave us advice and time at our arrival. I will definitely come back if I visit Malta again.
