The lovely Palazzo Capua building is adjacent to the Victoria Hotel and is run by the 4 Star Victoria. Breakfasts are available in the Victoria and guests at the Palazzo are able to use the facilities of the third adjoining hotel, the 5-star Palace Hotel. This means that the indoor and outdoor pools, the gym and the business suite at the Palace are available. Both pools are immaculate although, when we visited, the temperature of the indoor pool was much more inviting than that of the outdoor infinity pool on the 9th floor. The view wasn't so good though. The gym looked well equipped and, as with the pools, is open from 07:00.
The initial welcome at the Victoria was excellent; check in is from 15:00 but they arranged our room an hour earlier and carried the luggage the short distance to the Palazzo. They also supplied an excellent information package detailing local bus and ferry transport as well as available day trips. The room we were given, the Prince Charles, is excellent and benefits, as do all the first floor rooms, from the wide wrap-around balcony which circles this splendid historic building. The furniture in the rooms is magnificent, matching the general standard of the palace. The sheer height of the rooms enables the double bedroom to be accommodated on a spacious mezzanine floor. There was a large, comfortable four-poster bed, second TV, wardrobe and sideboard. The only criticism was that the floor seems to flex slightly producing squeaks and rattles from the wardrobe.
Downstairs, there was a well-equipped bathroom with an efficient bath and shower, a lounge area with a large flat screen TV, mini-refrigerator and a long settee which can double as a day-bed. There is also a library section under the mezzanine with a large dining table and bookshelves equipped with multi-lingual novels. The heating/ cooling is supplied by two air conditioning units - both did heat OK on colder nights but the warmer air tends to remain close to the roof.
Breakfast was included in our rate and was an enjoyable buffet which included pastries, bacon, eggs, beans, sausages, fruit, cereal, yoghurt etc. Coffee and fruit juice were also fine and a toasting machine worked well. We tried two of the Victoria's other restaurants, the Penny Black and the TemptAsian: both were very good.
The Palazzo, with its tall rooms, might echo quite a lot but it was very peaceful while we were there. We had some reservations about being right next to the StJames Hospital but its not a noisy kind of hospital: no sirens, ambulances or noisy visitors so far as we could tell.
I would definitely recommend the three hotels, Palazzo/ Victoria/ Palace.
