Dropped in on spec during a trip up north. Lovely food, quick service, friendly staff, nice atmosphere and to cap it all the toilets were very clean. Well done all. We will drop in on our way home.

My partner ordered a starter, which was a pork-pie with special piccalilli & the "SJF kitchen garden salad" - the latter manifested itself as a thimble-sized outcrop of cress!!! Mine, with exactly the same descriptor, actually turned out to be a few leaves. When she asked the waitress if she could have the same "SJF kitchen garden salad" as me the waitress went off to ask the "chef" and came back with a small bowl of leaves!

The cress was stated to be from the chef's kitchen garden & this conjures up pictures of the chef toiling over tiny morsels of cress that are being prepared in a seed tray for the table! Don't leave a tip, leave the chef some lettuce and tomatoes!

Dreadful. We ordered chips, staff didn't put it through chips obviously never arrived and manager Andy told us to go order some for £3 if we wanted some. No apology no sign of professionalism. Grandma said she's never seen anything like it, insulting behaviour. It was awful. Not recommended.

Weren’t inspired but nice enough roast. Wouldn’t go out of my way for it. Had the chicken breast and lamb but couldn’t taste the lemon and thyme or rosemary that each was meant to be infused with. Road ties and Yorkshire puddings texture was like they’d been sitting around but the green beans new potatoes and broccoli were nice. Decent gravy.

We were too full for pudding but the sticky toffee pudding and orange and whiskey bread and butter pudding looked really good.

Service was really quick and no need to book if a small group so great I’d heading up or down the A1 and want something to eat as right next to the road/junction.
