A large comfortable room with a lovely shower room. Friendly staff and a great selection for breakfast (including waffles).
This place is right near the beach and in the heart of Vik. It's walking distance from the restaurants.
The main building is a hotel and breakfast is included but it's not cheap. There's another building across the carpark which is a hostel and doesn't include breakfast but isn't much cheaper either.

We were stuck without a room. We called and booked on short notice. Given the circumstances, the hotel was good enough. However, our room smelled of cigarette smoke that was covered up with poor smelling cleaning spray. Otherwise, the room itself was fine. The bathroom was acceptable. It was fairly clean. The breakfast was the best we had of the entire week we had in Iceland. It offered a variety on top of the the standard oatmeal/yogurt/deli meats/multi-grain bread that all the other hotels offer.

The staff was friendly, the room was perfect and the breakfast was fantastic. We stayed at the Puffin for only one night but after staying in guesthouses and Airbnb's it was a welcome change. I'd recommend asking for a room with a private entrance and exit. I can't recall if it was an extra charge but it was easy to get in and out of our car, which we could park right outside of our room. It was a great way for us to get reorganized. The restaurant next door is not only convenient for dinner but it's really good too.

Room tip: Accessibility. I highly recommend the rooms with the private entrance and exit.

Basic, comfortable, great breakfast, great for Vik sight-seeing
Room size larger than average in Iceland, and nice to have a private bathroom. Location very convenient for the sights around Vik, right in the town centre. Breakfast was a real highlight which included miniature pastries and fresh waffles you make yourself in a waffle iron - a really nice change from the European style cold breakfasts at most places.
However, the whole operation feels a little dated - our bathroom looked like it hadn't been touched since the mid 90s! Also, great to provide tea and coffee for the rooms, but unfortunately these were served in vacuum containers as opposed to proper boiling water, which meant it didn't quite work. Therefore it felt a little overpriced compared to other places we stayed at half the price (I do appreciate that Vik is fairly pricey however).

Room tip: We were in the main building, which was comfortable and convenient.

The rooms are smallish with pebble floors, which are a bit uncomfortable. Breakfast is acceptable. You can sit in the room where the breakfast is served, or better yet you can opt for the front room which has more charm. The location is quiet and next to a restaurant with a local vibe.
