The Thingholt Center Hotel ( not to be confused with several other nearby Center Hotels) is located on a narrow side street immediately off the main shopping and dining street of Laugavegur and handy to the magnificent Harpa Concert Hall and the Harbour. The hotel has really no street presence and as its street is so narrow ( like many streets in Reykjavik ) smaller feeder busses pick up the ever present tourists lined up for their daily sightseeing. From there the feeder busses go a short distance to the main bus terminal.
The hotel is finished in "Icelandic" style with rubber or hardwood floors, minimal decorating and etched glass walls/door for the well appointed bathroom.Small European bedrooms with no computer space/counter/desks in many rooms . Spotlessly clean . Front desk staff were so pleasant at all times & were helpful getting us last minute seats for the San Francisco Ballet at the Harpa. The beds were comfortable with good fresh linens daily. The bedrooms lack "business "amenities & availabilities such as wall plugs. The hotel has an elevator to all floors and also ,unfortunately, has an elevator down to its lobby along with a set of stairs with glass on one side but no railing to hold onto. This would not meet North American safety standards ! A large lobby with an interesting collection of glass ,wooden and leather furniture set in vignettes for privacy provides a great meeting place to start off the day or gathering after a long day touring where you are able to enjoy a drink or Iceland's signature distilled beverage Brennivin.
Breakfast was a full buffet style with good coffee, good selection of cereals and local granolas ,eggs done several ways & lots of smoked salmon.
Staying at this Thingholt Center Hotel was an excellent experience ,the Icelandic way.

Room tip: Excellent 4th floor room with a long desk/table & backed onto a quiet view. Larger street rooms had no desk/counter for computer .

Great location right in the center of town and easy walking distance to many great bars and restaurants. Hotel is stylish and modern, staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. Breakfast is included and is reasonably good. Rooms are very small as others have written, barely room for the suitcase! Not a huge deal for a night or two but the only thing preventing a five star review.

Central location near main shopping areas, walking distance of many attractions, yet tucked away on narrow street. Loved contemporary nordic style furniture. Rooms were very comfortable, with glass-door bathrooms (frosted glass walls). Excellent breakfast buffet with wide variety of foods and good service. Front desk staff was very helpful in confirming shuttle pickups, checking tours, printing out driving maps, and airline ticket confirmations. The manager Jokull always asked how things were going and how can they help. Highly recommend this hotel

Room tip: 4th floor room: sloped ceiling over bed so we bumped heads. 3rd floor room had fuller layout with bathroom near door.

Booked in here for three nights in December. Hotel in a great location and very close to the attractions of the city centre. Rooms a little on the small side but perfectly acceptable. Breakfast good and plenty of choice, the waffles are a must.

I loved this hotel. I stayed here for 3 nights and it was extremely comfortable. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was in a private minibus and the reception staff were friendly upon arrival. The room itself was modern, clean and I loved the design. The bathroom was of a very high standard, with a beautiful shower which was ideal after a long, chilly day in Iceland. The room was always warm after coming in from the freezing cold and the floor seemed to be heated.
For an extra price you can use the spa, and we were the only ones in there which was lovely and relaxing. The hotel also offers to book trips which was very useful for us. The hotel restaurant is also great, I only had one meal there but it was great food and a nice experience.
A very pleasant experience, I would definitely stay with them again.
