“Beware, not 24 hr reception”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 April 2012

A reduced price tempted me. The free arking turns out to be on the street a min or so walk away but not an inconvience. Excellent location for the 24 hr supermarket by the post office and there is a local 'corner' shop in the next street. If you want to check in before 2pm expect to stump up €15 - I went for a drive exploring outside the city instead. Noisy with renovation work in a propoerty next door but can't be helped. You are right under the final approach to the domestci airport and there are more arrivals than you would imagine, but no issue for me. As with another hotel I stayed in very few TV channels to sample local tele and very poor reception but I got an insight into what the locals see and hear. Two single beds in my room, no headboard and poor pillows but other wise relatively clean and comfortable. At €25 odd Euros a night for Iceland is was about right. Some confusion over access to the kitchinette with the microwave, one receptioned said yes, another no - please ask and then a note was tepped up 'staff only'. Access to a microwave for budget travellers is a major plus so do ask and you should be able to use. Jugs of hot water were laid on one one evening. Some guests seemed to have rather high expectations to have the staff running around following up transfers to the airport even though the reception was closed. It seems to close about 7pm. The bus station is a 30 min walk away, or use the phone, no YOUR OWN, to check up you third confirmation of the reservation. The breakfast spread was pretty good by continental standards. Recommended for budget travellers and those happy with a reasonable standard of stay. Will consider again in Novemeber for right price (have already secured next easyjet flight!)

Room Tip: Loads of residential street parking close by, meters outside hotel door, reception seems to close ar...

Great location, but very poor accommodation. Our room was seperate to the rest of the hotel, it was up a pokey alley way, there were marks on the door frame as if it had several attempted breakins. The room had two single beds in, with the most hideous bed speads on, thay looked like the hadn't been washed in months. We lived out of our case during our stay because there were no wardrobe or drawers. There were no tea or coffee making facilities or a hair dryer. How an earth it's got a 3 star rating, I'll never know. The breakfast was basic and the staff on reception, when they were ther, we're very rude! Loved Rekjavik but take my advice don't stay at the Metropolitain.

Great location, near to the old harbour, breakfast plentiful but could do with more fruit. The rooms small but fine. Wetroom style shower rooms are good. Only gripe on the room is they could do with a bit more storage, a few shelves please! (we had to live out of the cases) Radiator wasn't working and we were cold but the guy on reception was really helpful and fixed straight away. Mad hot after that ;-) Dont be alarmed by sulphur smell of the water in bathroom, this is often the case in Iceland. The staff are really helpful with good English. The only downside with this hotel is it's noisy at weekend as our door was over the main entrance and the door needs a soft closer. All in all a good place, I recommend but if you go at weekend take earplugs.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at the front as near the noisy front door that slams all night

Second time I have stayed there. Good location, just on the edge of downtown Reykjavik
And close to the harbor. Basic rooms and basic breakfast. You can usually find good rates and the flybus and tour buses do pick you up from there.

Clean basic room with comfortable bed. In a fantastic location. Breakfast consisted of wholemeal and wry breads, crackers & digestives, various meats, choice of 3 cereals (1) museli, (2) cornflakes and (3) cheerios, choice of 2 fruit juices, selection of teas and coffees, various jams and a popular waffle machine. Staff were helpful, pleasant and polite. During our wait between vacating the room and pick up by airport coach, the hotel agreed to keep our luggage free of charge. Overall, great value for money, no problems with the room, i would be more than happy to return and I would recommend it to others although i'd also recommend that you take earplugs.

Room Tip: make sure you pick up the yellow Iceland Travellers Pocket Guide from Reception which contains unmis...
