Good location but small room with compact toilet/bath

Review of Hotel Cabin
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 31 Oct 2019
We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in October 2019.
Pros: The location is good. The ocean is just right in front of the hotel. The view from higher floors is stunning. The city center is just 15 minutes walk from the hotel. The breakfast was good too with a variety of fruits and veggies.
Cons: The room was too small. The toilet/bath was so compact that it was a difficult for me to take a shower. The hotel also needs to upgrade the taps and fittings. The salad dinner buffet was just okay.
Date of stay: October 2019
Room Tip: Choose a room on higher floors with the view of ocean

Dear ArnavBora86,

Thank you for providing us with your feedback, following your recent stay at Hotel Cabin, Reykjavik.

The standard rooms are compact in style with everything you need for a couple of days and we always ensure that this information is clear on our website. We understand that some of our guests do prefer a more spacious room and if we were aware we could have offered you a possible upgrade to one of our superior rooms. With that being said, we are glad to know that you enjoyed the breakfast choices and our location :)

Please note that your comment regarding the upgrading will be shared with Management and we will do our best to improve.

Thank you again and we hope to see you again in the near future.

With warm regards,
Hotel Cabin team

Ok, I'm surprised the ranking is so low. I was there as part of a tour - it felt a bit like a university dorm in the sense there are so many rooms and so many tour/schoolgroups. It didn't bother me too much though. The food in the cafeteria for breakfast wasn't bad considering I expected worse - range was pretty good, staff were reasonably helpful. Room was ok space - slightly tight for my large suitcase though! Bathroom ok size. Not sure the windows in the room were airtight - I could hear the Icelandic winds outside but it was very cold & windy when we were there....Nothing special in terms of design - but for this price bracket, you can't expect much. It's a basic hotel.
I probably wouldn't' stay here on my own as its location is not that close to the centre of the action in the city - I stayed at the Alda Hotel which is a lot more expensive but has a great location that makes it easy to get around. I think Hotel Cabin is a good 30 min walk from the good stuff in town so keep that in mind.

Dear paristosydneyt,

Thank you for your stay and for taking the time to share your review with us.

You are right :) our standard rooms are indeed small, or about 10m2 in size. We are a budget hotel with budget prices and breakfast is always included. We would like to mention that we just finished renovating our superior w/ view rooms and also adding 8 new rooms :) The superior w/ view rooms are all located on our top floor so they come with either a city or sea view.

Concerning our location, we are the closest neighbour to the city centre or about 2 km from downtown. We truly recommend a walk along the shore for incredible sea views :)

Our team work very hard to try to offer our guests a home away from home. If there is anything we can do to make your next stay more comfortable, just give us a shout.

We do hope for another opportunity to exceed your expectations in the future.

Have a great evening,

Sincerely,
Hotel Cabin team

This is a good travelling hotel. It has nice comfortable and clean rooms. The room we had for two was interesting in that it had three single beds with two of them put together into one bed rather than one double/queen bed. The rooms and washrooms are clean. The breakfast is continental and basic so don't expect anything fancy or lavish. Given that Iceland is quite expensive, I recommend eating as much as you can for the included breakfast before you head out.

We stayed here for a week ,i was worriedkoko based on the reviews here. We stayed in room 611 we really liked it .it was roomy enough had a great view of the water and the subway sandwich shop across the street. We are a married couple but somehow i accidentally got a room with 2 twin beds. But it worked out great i really think that is why the room was not cramped .And as a bonus every night i would look over at my husband and yell "goodnight Ricky" and he would yell back "goodnight Lucy! (That's an old timey TV reference google it.) The bathroom was small the shower was hard to get the hang of water starts out hot and you have to tune it up or down.
The staff was very friendly and helpfull with our dumb questions about transportation, food, postal system. They would schedule busses and such really they were the best.
We loved having free breakfast, although it was a odd combination of stuff do Icelanders really eat like this? I could not imagine that they do. We just were not sure what to with this odd mashup. Cucumbers, tomatoes, boiled eggs, sliced cheese and coldcuts?
At night we would come in and have a drink at the bar. They have a little gift shop which was perfect as at the end of my trip i still needed a couple gifts.
I really really liked this hotel

Hotel cabin is a fine base for a visit to Reykjavik.
It is not in the centre of the city but has a pleasant seafront walk to it (1 mile).
Rooms small be ample; breakfast plentiful but most importantly staff simply superb.
Nothing was too much trouble.
Would certainly recommend to friends and family

Stayed here for a few days in September. The room was very small, the veiw was nice, and the location was good. There's a gas station and a subway across the street. About a 15 minute walk along the harbor to the Harpa. 5 min drive to the Kringla (mall).

It was quiet and the beds were comfortable.

The shower is TINY! breakfast was ok. Not my type of breakfast, but I'm from Canada eh. 😉 Like Where's the bacon??

All in all it was a good stay.
