“Centrally Located, Art Deco style hotel”
Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed in a suite for 1 night (29th January 2012). Check in was quite rushed; we weren't asked if we wanted our luggage taking to our room. It was noted that we'd not booked breakfast and were given details (7-10am) but as we were leaving for the airport at 5am, said we didn't want it. We were offered a breakfast bag for early departure but didn't clarify how much it was before agreeing to it. The next morning, our brekkie bags were waiting for us which consisted of a ham and cheese sandwich, an orange, small carton of apple juice (from concentrate) and a small yoghurt. The cost of each bag was 2,800kr (roughly £15 each) so I recommend you avoid this as it was definitely not worth the money.

We were also a little peeved by the note on the reception desk saying you could upgrade to the next room up for €20/night - wish we'd have known that as we'd pre-paid!

The hotel is Art Deco style throughout. Our room on the 4th floor (Rm 414) was spacious enough, parquet flooring in the room and under floor heating in the bathroom. The room could have done with a good airing; the smell was like it had been slept in for a week without any windows having ever been opened. Also, remember to lock your door when you leave the room as it doesn't lock behind you - we noticed only when we got back from our walk! We had a balcony which overlooked the square and the windows are quadruple glazed so you don't hear any noise from down below.

Good tip if driving as parking is free all day Sunday until 10am Monday morning so pull up to the hotel, unload your bags, then park on street where you can.

We ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic. The highlight being the carrot cake dessert which had popping candy on it!! Like everywhere else in Iceland, the food and drink was expensive but was of a high standard.

Overall, a nice hotel and centrally located. I think the staff could have done a little better to justify the star rating

I stayed here with some friends on a stop-over in Iceland. The location was excellent - right in the city center, and the staff was very friendly. One gentleman at the desk was kind enough to keep some unsavory locals out of the hotel that tried to follow us inside after a night out. Rooms were large & comfortable, breakfast was very good, but expensive, and the bar next to the lobby was a great place to start the night. Our stay could not have been better!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the town square. Very nice views of the city and harbor to the left.

Very central for wining, dining and barflying in Reykjavik this is a very attractive art deco hotel where you can imagine MGM executives staying in the 20’s. Plush carpets (even in the corridors), classy interior design, the added luxury of heated bathroom floors and snuggly beds you just sink into made this the perfect welcome to Iceland.
We didn’t eat breakfast here or go to the restaurant for dinner – it looked pretty good but we only had one night in Reykjavik so we wanted to wander and test other places.

The reception staff were very nice and I really appreciated their advice on places to visit which were proactively given and warmly opinionated. Personable and engaging; makes a welcome difference to what can sometimes be slightly bland at 4/5 star hotels when checking in.

We had a deluxe room in the corner turret of the hotel and it was lovely and spacious. The major plus was the big bay windows on two sides of the room. It had all the regulars – flat screen TV, mini-bar, bath robes etc etc.

My father had a standard double room. While it didn’t have the same space and the windows as the deluxe room it was still a stylish, comfy room. The bathroom was inviting with a bathtub under the window.

Really great experience, I would so go back here.

Unique, art deco style this hotel doesn't provide the slick 4* service of the larger hotels but if you want to stay in central Reyjkavik in comfort and with great service this is your place.
Very nicely furnishd in art deco style throughout, the staff are very helpful and booked all our restaurants for us before we arrived.

Stayed here last year with a couple of friends on a boys trip to Iceland. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and the rooms semi luxurious. Word of warning though, one side of the hotel has a modern hot water system and the older side has a naturally heated hot spring under it and is served by some very smelly sulphuric water. So much so that it makes you want to vomit in the shower. Other than that, it's a nice hotel and really well located. The staff were very helpful and organized lots of things for us to do on our trip. Definitely go snow mobiling on the the glacier, it was the best experience of our lives!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the new side of the hotel with the modern water system.
