I loved the atmosphere at this guesthouse. It was cute, cozy and I loved the decor!

One of the best perks about staying here is that you are treated with tons of free food: pasta, rice, milk, coffee and even biscuits! So you will feel like at home.

Besides, it's located near the Harpa (which is really great by night) and the best hot dogs in town!

The best place in Reykjavik! Thank you guys!

My husband and I stayed for two nights in January. Jon emailed me prior to our arrival and gave us the door combo code so we could let ourselves in and check in if he wasn't around. Our room was small but simple, and had a comfortable mattress with a shared bathroom. The room was well lit and warm, but the bedding smelled a little; not sure if it was from being washed in the sulfur-smelling water or not?

The bathroom was always clean, toilet paper and wash cloths restocked, and we were provided with towels to use. The shower was pretty small, but hot water was fine and there were plenty of places in the bathroom to put my belongings (towel rack, shelves, little plastic basket for shampoo and stuff). There is also a sink in the hallway to use in case someone is in the bathroom.

The kitchen was stocked with coffee and tea, cereal and some things like rice, spaghetti, etc if you wanted to cook. There is a cute, quirky sitting area that was kept neat.

Shoes come off before entering a living space while you're in Iceland, and there are little shoe cabinets for each room-- our snow boots were too big for the cabinets so we left them on the floor, but they were fine there.

Parking is paid parking across the one way street- make sure you get out there in the morning to renew your parking stub.

The guesthouse is in a good location; on a quiet street, a short walk away from restaurants and bars. Overall it wasn't super fancy but it did have what we needed. :)

This was my second stay at the Butterfly Guesthouse. We stayed in the apartment on the top floor for 3 weeks, and it was great. We love Jon and how attentive he is to all his guests. He is truly a wonderful and a caring person. Jon was always on hand for questions, and he was always checking in on us. He would come by and bring us fresh towels, get our garage, and he even came by to clean the apartment and changed the sheets. We are heading back in July, and of course, we will be starting at the Butterfly Guest House. The guest house is also centrally located, and it makes for a nice walk to their little downtown. The best part of this last visit was seeing the Auora Borealis from the guest house. You will not be disappointed with your stay, it's a great place to be, and you will feel completely at home. Go stay there, and tell Jon I sent you:).

Room Tip: All rooms are great. For privacy and your now kitchen, choose the apartments. All rooms are quiet.

Me and my friend really enjoyed our stay at the Butterfly Guesthouse over Christmas, it is in a great location, was warm, quiet, clean and comfortable, and the communal kitchen was very well equipped and clean, nice big dining table and lounge area. We even cooked our own Christmas dinner there!

Jon, the host, is great. Very friendly and helpful and has a great sense of humour! We even went to support him when he played in the Iceland National Chess Championships!

Thank you for a great Christmas!

We had a great 8 nights at the Butterfly Guesthouse over Christmas and would definitely return. It was a great find close to the Old Harbour, so is just about the perfect location to explore Reykjavik. Jon is a great host and has created a warm and very welcoming guesthouse.
