On a dark and rainy Wednesday, I and my husband went for a dinner at Bazaar Oddson Restaurant Reykjavik. We had a three course dinner dinner consisting of lobster/langoustine for starter, tenderloin beef as main course and tiramisu for dessert. All three courses were beautifully cooked and most delicious. We found the price reasonable 12.900 for two persons (89 GBP), but it must be mentioned that it was an offer on aha.is, similar to Groupon UK so it is less than the regular price. There is also a Bazaar Bistro with a special menu and even a hostel in the same building. It is situated by the sea so I think there are views over the Faxaflói Bay on a bright day.

We arrived in Iceland early evening of New Year's Eve, & were going to be staying in a B&B. The owner had made dinner reservations for us at Bazaar Oddsson, the nearest hotel to the B&B. It was a prix fixe dinner with a rather ambitious 3-course menu, including an appetiser, Beef Wellington & dessert. The chef really tried - it was good, but not great. But the price was exorbitant - over $100 per person, & didn't even include a single glass of bubbly, or anything other than water. We ordered a bottle of Prosecco, the most reasonable wine on the menu. When it came time for dessert, I asked if coffee would be included, & was told, "no". When I protested that the meal & wine were expensive enough & they could toss in a couple of coffees "gratis", the manager relented. The so-so meal for the two of us came to $360 - more than we'd ever paid for a dinner anywhere. We had marveled that the restaurant was nearly empty, & when we got the bill, we knew why. There were no party favors, no music, no anything other than white table cloths on the tables. It was one big rip off, & not a very good introduction to Iceland.
p.s. We later went back to the restaurant for a meal, as it was the closest place to our B&B. We ordered off the bar menu - hamburgers, which were fine, & "normally" priced for Reykjavik, which is expensive everywhere. The Oddsson is a strange place to have an upscale restaurant, as it's more like a hostel, catering to a young crowd.

From the outside this place looks inviting, warm and the type of restaurant that would provide an ideal setting for a ambient setting for dinner. However, this could not be further from the truth. When you enter you are greeted by sprawled, weary travellers with their boots off and what can only be described as disinterested staff. The food was lukewarm but tasty and overpriced. As other reviewers have stated, your money and evening would be better spent just around the corner at XO...

Was looking forward to coming to this place and try it out. Service was quite poor, we had to wait forever to order and service was slow throughout the process and staff not knowledable. Food was however good which made a little but up for it. However, not thrilled to come back. Nice athmo.
