Last fall (2017) city of Kotka saw openings of multiple new coffee places. Pitko is probably my favourite of the three. It's closest to a classic finnish coffee shop. I very much like the look of the place. The interior is nicely done! And there's enough seats, from nice sofa by the window to a bar table. Pitko is a great place to have coffee or tea and cakes but I have also eaten small lunches here as they serve slices of different kind of pies with salad.
My favourite is to have a hot chocolate. But as in way too many Finnish cafes their hot chocolate in Pitko is nothing compared to thick and delicious hot chocolates they serve for example in Prague or in Lisbon. It's too watery and the chocolate comes from the same bag they serve everywhere. I hope once the coffee selection and tea selection are generally improving in Finland and in our coffee shops that the hot chocolate would too.
But anyway, Pitko is one of the best choices while in Kotka. Also try Cafe-Confectionary Coco by the market square.
