I was very delighted with the food (as I was hoping to be, with those prices). I also appreciated the beautiful surroundings. The service was not perfect (there was some mix up with the drinks), but it was polite.

I have tried to give this restaurant a chance for four times, last time in January 2017. Every time the service sucks and the food is not up to the price. It's a beautiful place and deserves better.
Lunch is good and then you don't expect anything from the service...

Small, but very good menu. Our main dish was perfect. Tasty and good size. Dessert also very tasty.
The restaurant was beautifully decoratedd, chandeliers, nice colourd walls. Even though there were guite a lot of tables, it didn't feel crowded

It was really admirable that the new owners of renovate this classic restaurant retaining much of its old majestic grandeur but with a good touch of today's fresh, urban style. The end result is stylish and pleasant. One thing that, alas, has not changed is the acoustics of the place; when only a few people present, the voices echo from the walls, and when crowded, the conversation in some tables with anyone except your nearest neighbour becomes impossible.

Since the new start in autumn 2016, I have visited the restaurant three times: once on a dinner on Sunday evening, another time on Sunday brunch, and the third time on a private occasion.

The dinner menu offered enough variation and was accomplished with thought. Our party of six had different pre-courses, mains and desserts and we were all very pleased with our choices. The wines were also matching, although slightly randomly chosen. They had just opened a few weeks before and the friendly waitress confessed that her wine training would take place on the following week. The only complaint about the dinner: the platter of three cheeses consisted of three very similar (hard and mild) cheeses and was served a bit too cold.

The Sunday brunch was the first time they provided it, and considering it was the very first time, everything went well. The selection of food focused more on the breakfast than the lunch side, but was well made and offered enough variation. A glass of sparkling wine is included.

In a place that looks like this your expectations are quite high. Therefore I consider the following criticism on fairly minor issue justified. The only disappointing experience came from our third visit, in connection with the private occasion which was otherwise excellently catered, when we visited the secret "illegal" bar. The concept in itself is charming: you have to find the bar first and they take only a certain number of people inside as it is a small place, imitating the illegal bar of the Prohibition years. One person is not enough to run the bar if the bar is full, despite its small size. Although we got the first drinks immediately, many members of our group, including me, left the bar after queing for the second drink for half an hour in vain by the bar. How many more drinks they could have sold that night if they had another bartender!

I hope these are just teething issues as the restaurant is still quite new.

This is clearly an ambitious restaurant serving delicious food in a stylish setting and definitely worth a visit. I just hope something could be done for the acoustics.

If you go to Kotka, definitely pay a visit. I was taken there for business lunch which was a traditional Finnish christmas buffet. It was nice. The atmosphere was good. I enjoyed it.
