We recently spent 3 nights in the Helka hotel whilst visiting Helsinki. We had taken a ferry crossing from Tallinn so arrived at the Nordic Jet terminal at the market front. We had a decent map and plenty of time so walked to hotel which took about 20mins.The hotel proved to be very well situated. 5mins from Kamppi shopping mall and bus station, a little further to Forum shopping centre, Contemporary Art gallery and railway station. 10 mins walk to Finish museum, Finlandia concert hall and a further 10 mins to the opera hall.Other main attractions were all within 20 mins walk.
The hotel itself had eveything we needed.Clean reasonable sized rooms, excellent and plentiful breakfast and a friendly helpful staff.
As we arrived on a Sunday finding a place for evening meal was not so easy and we eventually made do with a snack bought from nearby supermarket. However the following evening as it was so wet outside we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant. This proved an excellent choice with a set priced menu for 30 euros each for 3 courses and very good standard of cuisine.
On our third night we looked for somewhere close to the opera hall where we were going to see Cosi fan Tutti. We chose a Hungarian restaurant which we do not overly recommend.I am sure Helsinki has many good eating places but we were just a bit unfortunate in not finding them!
As many museums are shut on a Monday we decided to take a bus outwith the city to see some rural Finland and a smaller town. We asked advice at the bus station and ended up in Jarven-paa about 1 hour away. This cost 12 euros per round trip and we felt it worth doing. We spent an afternoon exploring the town until the rain again drove us back to Helsinki. The following day we visited the Contemporary Art gallery which was excellent and the Finish museum which was also very interesting.
Considering how centrally this hotel is situated I believe it rated as excellent value in a fairly costly city.

Helka is a great place to stay. My wife and I spent a total of 4 nights there in September - 3 nights consecutively, a trip to St Petersburg and then returning to Helka for one more night before returning to the states. The staff were helpful with all questions and great at giving directions and suggestions for dinner. They even let us store a suitcase for three days while we were in Russia. The decor was Scandinavian modern and quite nice. We requested upper floor accommodations to avoid street noise and had perfectly quiet rooms. Restaurant was fabulous but busy at breakfast time. Helsinki is expensive and Helka is not cheap but we have no complaints and would definitely return. It was a very positive experience.

We have recently returned from yet another trip to Finland, based in Helsinki. Helka Hotel was excellent for everything. The food is very good, healthy and good quality. The hotel's recent refurbishment uses all the best of Finnsh design. The rooms are smart, functional, comfortable and modern. All very tastefully done, throughout the hotel. The staff are very helpful and the location is very convenient for central locations. We would definitely stay there again.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a good location, just out of the hustle & bustle. The shops are just 5 mins walk, the harbour probably 15 mins- im not sure, kept going in shops on the way! The room (220) was very modern, business like. Lovely black floorboards and modern decor. The beds were so comfy. And even though we were next to the stairs/lift we couldnt hear any noise, apart from if people were talking loudly as they walked past. The rooms have free air-con which is great, english channels on the tv showing actual decent sutff and there was free internet in the reception (and in the room if you have a laptop.) The bathroom was small (bit difficult to bend down in) but very clean. And the staff were very helpful and polite, speaking good english. Other areas of the hotel are very clean & modern. Breakfast was basic continental (typical Finn breakfast, oats, bread, cereal) we only ate it twice cos we were to lazy to get up!
I had a great time here! P.S- go the the cinema, (we saw Miami Vice in English with Finnish subtitles!) Its 2 mins from the hotel- left and cross the road. It has comfy chairs and loads of leg room oh and its sloped well so if some tall person sits in front u can still see!)

Stylish Finnish hotel. Whilst the corridors might seem a bit like a dorm, the rooms are well fitted out with examples of Finnish design.

Close to the Kamppi shopping centre and bus station, day trips from Helsinki are easy. It is a relatively short walk to several tram and metro bus lines.

Staff were helpful, with a secure luggage room to use after checking out. Breakfast is well stocked compared to other hotels in the region.
