Helka is a privately own hotel near the center of Helsinki. Everything you need is within 10-15 minutes walking distance. Many business travellers staying at the hotel.
I have stayed there twice and the room size varies at least in single rooms. Room 427 was more spacious than roome 517, eaqully nice though. Rooms are clean and nicely decorated with Finnish designs. Breakfast was nice and adequate. On the minus side - once you had used your complimentary shampoos and stuff, you did not get new ones. All in all I would stay in Helka again, for it's much more personnel than some of the other hotels I've stayed in.

Average location, about 10 minutes from the railway station.
Small (single) rooms, but quite well done.
Moderate service.
Free public sauna, but it is much better to pay for the private sauna.
Good value hotel.

The location of this hotel is ideal, within a few blocks (about 6-7) from the main train station in Helsinki. Even loaded with suitcases, we found this to be a fairly quick and easy 15-minute walk. The harbor, Stockmans department store and hundreds of small shops are all within easy walking distance. The Church in the Rock is only a block or two away.

The check-in at the hotel was extremely smooth, and the hotel had a very welcoming and efficient staff. All the staff we encountered at the front desk spoke English. There was free internet on a computer in the hotel's lobby (15-minute limit suggested), which was a nice surprise. The hotel's sauna was under repair, but is expected to be operational very soon. The rooms used key cards for entry.

Our room was quite spacious, with two twin beds (pushed together and treated like one bed), plus a large fold-out sofa bed for the third person. The beds had wonderful down comforters. Our room was an end unit, which appeared to be a bit larger than others on our floor. Two small bedside tables, desk, chair, swivel HD television, a floor lamp and a large closet were also in the room. A small refrigerator was also in the room, which was great. Extra linens and pillows for the third person were in the closet. Large windows in our room overlooked the streets of Helsinki, but the noise was minimal. The attached bathroom was very clean, with several toiletries. A hair dryer was provided.

We arrived on a Sunday night, so there weren't many restaurants open. So we decided to try the hotel's restaurant for dinner--and it was fabulous. We dined on reindeer and German elf (deer) meatballs, among other local specialties. Highly recommended, with great service.

The day prior to leaving, we had ordered an airport shuttle from the front desk staff. It was snowing fairly heavily the morning we left, so this was a great choice. For 1 or 2 people traveling together, it was 25 Euros total. No need to tip, either!

There was a wonderful breakfast served in the hotel's restaurant. Juices, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, cereals, meats, fresh fruit, and great breads were all included in our hotel rate. And because a few of our friends needed to leave around 4:00 am to get to the airport, the staff of the hotel even prepared a take-away breakfast for them, since they would miss out on breakfast that morning. I have never had a hotel offer to do that!

I was staying for two night and selected Helka on the basis of its low price and proximity to where I had to be in Helsinki. The room was tiny; I could hardly open my suitcase and had to jump over it on my way to the toilet. The toilet was small - the wash basin could hardly fit both my hands!
Breakfast had perhaps the poorest variety I have ever experienced in a European hotel.
The decoration (inside my room - what was the big idea behind sticking a piece of cloth showing mountains and trees just below the ceiling?? - and elsewhere) was not to my taste - too modern-ish and (perhaps) quite cheap-looking.
Quite clean, shower working well, hot water in order, TV channels on offer uninspiring (but is it generally the case in Helsinki anyway?).
Little interaction with staff so I can't say much - they seemed to be polite, speaking proper English.

In the future, if I can find another hotel in that area (or a bit to the south) at a reasonable price, I will opt for that.

The decor is nice what a tourist might expect thinking of Finnish design, and our room was spacious. Unfortunately the bathroom was not very clean. I wonder if it was just a mistake as the rest of the place was clean.
Location is not too bad, and staff helpful.
Breakfast appropriate for a 3 star.
I booked through another website because the price the hotel had on their own was higher.
