Stayed in a single room.

Pros:
Excellent breakfast! Coffee, espresso drinks, hot food, cold cuts, etc.
Clean
Comfortable
Some toiletries provided
Shower separated from bathroom, unlike many European hotels
Good location to center (10 min walk)
Price was great because Helsinki very expensive
Quiet

Cons:
Room is small. Not a huge problem, but couldn't sit on toilet without knees bumping sink.
Sauna is expensive (10 euro)
This is a strange complaint, but they started preparing breakfast at 630 am, and the smell from he coffee was so strong in my room as to wake me up.

Stayed: April 2017, travelled solo

I stayed here 8 years ago it hadn't really changed! Quick check in. Room on top floor, sort of a mini suite. Mum loved the kitchen and bathroom. Decoration isn't modern but all very clean and tidy. Nice street view and I slept really well all nights.
Breakfast a good choice but I would like some variation, Karelian pies maybe ?
Staff very effecient and all speak excellent English. On quiet end of Annakatu but bars etc close by. Firm favourite with Mum! It's not cheap but there are no city centre bargains in Scandinavia.

Room Tip: 701 good suite.

The main reason for choosing the hotel was the low price and central location: 5 min from ECHA Headquarters just down the street and 15 min slow walk from the Railway.
The hotel is tiny, but tidy.
Earlier check-in was not available, but the luggage storage helped.
Room has all the facilities, including tea-coffee set, minibar, toiletries etc.
Breakfast is nice.
The hotel is not for elderly people for sure, as you have to use high stairs to go to breakfast and to some rooms as well.

There are few bars and restaurants around, but mostly ground floors in the neighbourhood are occupied with the antique shops

The only good thing of this hotel is its location, otherwise I'm sorry to say that it's one of the worst and most overpriced hotel I stayed in more than 20yrs travelling in more than 80 countries. Let's be clear: Helsinki has a relative poor hotel offer, hence most of the hotels are very expensive, even more expensive than neighbouring countries (SWE/NOR). But this hotel, I'm really sorry to say it, it's a joke! Firstly I was poorly greeted by a mid-age lady probably not in her best mood. I had to fill a quite extensive check-in form including my passport details (!) when my previous two nights in Oulu and Tampere I had to do absolutely nothing apart from usual email address and signature. She argued that it was the rule (what rule, Helsinki? Anna Hotel?) with a very defying tone and attitude. Why couldn't she just use the copy machine behind her?!? Anyway, the single room is one the tiniest I ever stayed. Decoration and furnitures maybe 30 yrs old. The bathroom probably 2,5 sqM, I am speechless thinking about the price paid almost 120€/night!! Breakfast very average, once again terrible decoration, there are hostels with a higher overall level, I'm not exaggerating. They have a parking nearby very convenient (20€/night) but not so easy to access (although the instructions they give you are quite exhaustive). Bottom line? Helsinki is super expensive accommodation-wise, however if you can spend 40-50€ more, I strongly recommend a different hotel. Obviously, this is purely my personal opinion based on a not positive experience. Definitely this hotel doesn't deserve 3 stars...

Dear Sir,
Thank you for your review. Regarding the room rate you happened to stay when Helsinki was fully booked due to the Figure Skating World Championships, and as you pointed out, our rates where still 40-50 € lower than the competitors, so you got a good deal. Regarding filling the travel form, it is stright from the regulations from
Ministry of employment and the economy "An entrepreneur offering accommodation is obliged to fill out a passenger card on travellers lodging in hís accommodation facilities"
http://www.suomi.fi/suomifi/english/eservices/forms/tm_m1/index.html
so we just follow the rules. What they do in Oulu or Tampere is not up to us to comment, and a copy of your id card is not yet acceptable by the authorities.
We are sorry for the less pleasant experience that you got in our reception and we hope that your experience of Helsinki will be more satisfying in the future.
Kind regards

I stayed at Hotel Anna for a week while visiting Helsinki. It is centrally located (a 15-minute walk from the bus and train stations, or 1-2 blocks from trams #3 and #10), clean, and comfortable. The rooms are simple but have a few nice touches, such as heated bathroom floors and complimentary umbrellas. The breakfast buffet is ample: I liked the yogurt with berry compote on top. If you visit, I recommend walking south through the quiet neighborhood of Eira to the harbor islands and two excellent cafes, Carusel (family and dog-friendly) and Cafe Ursula (slightly more upscale, a great place for morning coffee).

Room Tip: I sprang for a "Comfort Single," which costs about 10 Euros extra but is well worth the price.
