It is a shipping, shopping and hotel area. It is steps way from the central station and the city hall. Here we boarded on the Prins Carl Philip ship to Drottningholm on a nice 1hr (or so) sailing through some of the Stockholm waterways. It is worth walking along the promenade and enjoying your fika!

The best shopping area in town. It's classy, big alleys and a lot of beautiful store. The atmosphere is really good as well. Trendy.

Our lovely comfortable apartment was just off Valhallavägen. We enjoyed our many walks to the centre, along Nybrogatan and parallel streets. Our first afternoon we passed the unique Ostermalms Saluhall and visited Hallwyl Museum, a grand introduction to the city.

Karlavagen and Valhallavägen are wonderful boulevards with a fine central linear park. The former passes through Karlaplan with its great fountain.

There are so many attractions, encompassing museums, art galleries, the opera house, gorgeous churches and two magnificent libraries, State and Royal.

Churches we enjoyed included Jacobs Kyrka, exquisite Klara Kyrka and the wonderful Engelbrektskyrkan that was particularly impressive silhouetted in the moonlight on its commanding elevation.

The Historiska Museet had a superlative exhibition on the Vikings, as well as its major permanent collections. The Baroque Hall and the Gold Room were memorable.

Another route we enjoyed strolling along was the full length of Drottninggatan, predominantly pedestrianised, from its inception, passing Sergels Torg to Kungstensgatan and Observatorielunden which is a lovely park. It's a premier shopping street.

Close to our rental was the Olympic Stadium dating from the 1912 games. It is a wonderful sight. At the entrance is a plaque with a long list of records broken in 1912.

Lovely parks and green areas are plentiful. Berzelii Park has the delightful Berns Restaurant, while close by is peaceful Kungsträdgården with grand fountains and water features. Humlegården is lovely and additionally contains the classic Royal Library.

One afternoon we decided to walk to the marvellous Millesgården from Valhallavägen, along Lidingövägen and Norra Lanken, and crossing Gamla Lidingöbron that afforded panoramic views. It was fascinating to see up close this part of the city and port area. Travellers were making their way with luggage to the international ferries that were berthed along.

Norrmalm is mainly a commercial area Stockholm. Here you can find lots of hotels, restaurants, bars and great shopping. Do not miss the vegetable/fruit & flower market at Hötorget (open all days except Sunday's). You also have Drottninggatan, a pedestrian street with a lot of shops.

This rather large area is the main shopping area in Stockholm with all the larger shops and some department stores. Its also the part of town that was mostly rebuilt in the 50s and 60s so there are fewer old buildings here. Lately the buildings from 60s have become a little run down but rebuilding occurs here and there. Its also an area frequented by pick pockets since it may get crowded with people shopping so beware, specially in the summer. Lately there is also a very large influx of people begging and this gets very annoying after a while. This occurs mostly on Drottninggatan, Sveavägen and Sergels Torg. Its also an area I prefer to avoid at night as a citizen here due to higher crime rate and occurence of drug dealing. Its not unusual that you will see the homeless sleep on the pavements or close to underground stations all year round. The blocks northernmost in Norrmalm are quieter greener and also more genuine than the southern part of the area.
