“A hidden gem”

If you would like to know more about some of modern day artists and how they worked in order to get their more famous works of arts together, this is the place.

This museum is home to a larger number of works by world famous artists and national famous artists, however none of the works are famous, but the end product might be.

I've been here on a number of occassion, watching both the normal exhibition and special ones. If you are here for the first time the normal exhibition is more than enough to get you interested if you are an art lover. Just the entrance hall itself is enough to make you look around for a while.

Modest entrance fee.

“Coolest museum - see them before they were famou”
Reviewed 29 March 2012

My daughter is an artist so I brought her to Sweden and to this sketch museum for her graduation present. It was a really funky and fun museum. While there was a lot of completed work, the most amazing to me was the doodles of Picasso on a piece of notebook paper and other well-know artists from all over the world. There is a really neat section that has the sketch-ups and small scale models of buildings you might just recognize. The present it all in a well-organized format, but allow you to go along at your own pace. One of my most favorite places

“Fascinating small museum”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

The Museum of Sketches presents models and preliminary versions of works of art (this is the meaning of "sketches" which actually is not quite captured in the English word). It is much more interesting than one might expect! The first room, which is like a big artist's studio, is a bit overwhelming, with so many things to look at. But picking out a few interesting pieces was very rewarding! There was a set of designs for the marriage chamber in Stockholm Town Hall, with many different designs and the story of the controversy and difficulty the authorities had in coming to a consensus on what designs to choose. From there I was hooked! Rooms after that were not as crowded, which made it easier to view the works of art. There are "sketches" from numerous famous artists, but what was really interesting was being able to see how ideas developed, often from something very simple, to the final, or near final, work of art.
Well worth the short walk through the old part of Lund to the museum, which is part of the University.
