First the positives:
-The front desk staff could not be any more wonderful. They let us leave our luggage in the lobby when we got there too early to check in, directed us to great affordable restaurants, and went out of their way to make us happy
-The breakfast is a great mix of cereal, pastries, toast, eggs, and lunch meats. It was wonderful not to have to search for breakfast in the city ($$$$)
-The price. For $140/night, it was a good value in a very expensive region
-The location was great, walkable to both the metro and the S-train, and right on the harbor

The negatives:
-The room was tiny, and the shower got the whole bathroom floor wet, but ehhh...we weren't staying long enough to be more than a small bother.
-We had a room overlooking the courtyard, where they were doing construction. For some reason the workers started at 6 am! We stayed again at the end of our cruise in the room next door, and there was no construction so maybe it was a fluke.

There are definitely nicer hotels in town, but for the price I felt it was a good value.

I would love to stay in Nyhavn for a few days more in this hotel as it is just a step away from the relaxed restaurants and bars.

The rooms are quite basic and bathrooms are worn but we slept well an enjoyed the 1-night stay.

Car must be parked on a street outside so it may take some time to find a spot (I had no problem except paying the parking fees)

Breakfast is basic but ok. This place is all about the location.

We stayed for two nights in the middle of the week in July 2012. Let's start with the cons. As many people have noted, this hotel is really basic. You are NOT getting business hotel amenities or decorations. In fact, it's accurate to say that accomodations are about one step above the average hostel (TV, telephone, en-suite facilities, free wireless, and free coffee/tea are the only amenities). The bathroom was clean, but the shower had no curtain so water got all over the place.

Despite these cons, I still give this hotel a 4/5 rating. Why?
1) The staff were incredibly friendly. I believe the hotel is run by a religious group, or at least the staff acted like they belonged to a religious group (they seemed beatifically happy and wore all black).
2) Breakfast was quite filling. There wasn't any hot food, but there was a nice spread of soft-boiled eggs, pastries, cold cuts, cereal, and fruit. There is also free tea/coffee all the time. Leftover food can be bought later during the day for cheap.
3) The room was quiet (we specifically requested to not be overlooking Nyhavn harbor but rather one of the side streets). My guess is that it would have been noisier if we had stayed on a weekend.
4) Location was good, if you like the cute harbor of Nyhavn. [The tourist area of Copenhagen is compact and public transport is excellent so it doesn't matter terribly where you stay as long as you're within the tourist area]. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to the Kongens Nytorv Metro, which is a central transport hub. From this Metro, you can get to the airport within 15 minutes or ride one stop to Norreport, which is near a bunch of sights and restaurants. There are a number of buses at Kongens Nytorv that can take you anywhere in the city. To get to the train station, you can take a 10-12 minute bus ride (e.g. bus 1A), walk 20 minutes, or ride the Metro to Norreport and transfer to S-tog A or B.
5) Value - the price for a standard double (845 DKK) was much lower than the vast majority of the alternatives (mostly business hotels).

In short: if you want a clean, good-value room in a desirable location, this is a great option. It's all about expectations, though. If you expect luxury, though, you will be sorely disappointed (in the breakfast room, we overheard a few tourists complaining about how basic everything was...clearly, they didn't do their research!)

We only stayed here for 1 night on our return to Australia from The Faroe Islands. The location was brilliant - perfect views from our window over the picturesque harbour setting. Great selection of amazing cafes and restaurants the moment you step out the front door. A short walk from the closest metro station linking directly with the airport. Our room was spacious, bed was comfortable, staff were helpful and friendly and breakfast was decent. There was a bit of noise coming from the street, but it was also the night when Denmark beat Netherlands in a World Cup game, so it would have been noisy wherever you stayed in Copenhagen that night!

I asked the friendly people at the desk what the building had been and what somandshjemmet meant. Turns out that it was a place for seamen to stay waiting for a ship. So that is what we were. We were there for a night before and a night after our Baltic cruise. Easy to get to/from the airport on the metro and days worth of sightseeing within walking distance once you are there. We took a cab to/from pier just for convenience. The breakfast is wonderful european with many different breads, pastries, cheeses, and what Americans consider lunchmeat. The rooms are fine and just like the pictures so you know what to expect. The view is wonderful out the canal side and actually our friends heard a bit more noise on the street side. This is a good value for Europe. There is a computer in the lobby or wifi for your device. They stored luggage in the lobby since we got in at 9:30am and even cheerfully agreed to print my boarding passes for the next day. I would definitely stay there if I am ever in Copenhagen again.
