“Good, simple accommodation near the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 April 2012

The hotel is very new and clean. Friendly service at the reception. Rooms are modern and with all the amenities. The breakfast is VERY basic, but it's only like 8€/person so much cheaper than a breakfast in the city. There's also a bus stop opposite the hotel (11A if i remember right) and the bus takes you near Nyhavn and Stroget incase it's a rainy day.

Room Tip: We had a basic room on the 4th floor facing the Tivoli hotel and it was nice and quiet.

We stayed 3 nights in April during Easter. This is an hotel with a modern design where the bathroom in not a separate room but an area with glass walls.

The room is not very spacious but the set up makes it easy to move around.
Everything was very clean and we really enjoy our stay.

Maybe be one set back, there is no kettle available, but cups of hot water are available on request from reception.

The breakfast buffet is 60 krone and is basic, nothing memorable.

The location for us was ideal, just 10 minutes walking from the train station (with airport connection every 15 minutes) and about 15 minutes away from the centre.

The hotel is a rather large building and the sign is noticeable as you arrive via train to the Central Train Station. From there, it's less than a 10 minute walk to the hotel. and since the train station is very close to the city center, it's also less than 10 minutes away from all the sights and shopping in Copenhagen. The Tivoli Gardens amusement park is about a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

There is a restuarant in the hotel which serves breakfast from 6-10 on weekdays (until 10:30 on the weekends) for less than 70 kr but I chose to just get a croissant from the front desk for less than 20 kr. There are many sitting areas in the lobby where you can watch people walk by through the floor to ceiling windows. Also in the lobby are couches, two flat screen tvs, and a business center with about 6 computers that offers free internet service.

The room I had was a double and it was a single double bed. If you're traveling solo this shouldn't be a problem at all but the room doesn't have much space to move around in, and the bathroom is small and made of frosted glass. The hotel is very strict and only allows one blanket/pillow per person, but they did have a heater that you can control in the room so it wasn't a problem. There was no safe in the room and minimal storage space, just a desk/chair and sitting chair, and a small bedside table. There is also no closet, just 4 hangers hanging on an exterior hook. The flat-screen tv was large but its angle couldn't be changed so it couldn't be seen straight-on from the bed.

All in all, this was a good hotel for a two night stay.

Wakeup Copenhagen was a nice, clean, no-nonsense business traveller hotel. The rooms were basic with bed, desk and glass wall bathroom. The breakfast was pretty good with a range of items and the eating area was large with a good number of tables. I found the staff to be a bit clinical but not surprising with the volume of guests. Free WIFI was available and computers, for those not having laptops or smart devices, were available in the lobby. The location was great with a reasonably short walk to the core but sights around the hotel were sparse (other towers and a Danish postal service building). Excellent value and modern amenities make this a great choice if you are worried about services at an older hotel....I indicate that I travelled in April 2011 (as this was the earliest option) but I actually travelled in the fall of 2009.

Overall the Wakeup is not a bad choice at all. It's a modern design with very compact and quirky rooms which put me in mind of a Yotel, small but with some well thought out ergonomics. I'm glad I was alone, 2 people plus suitcases are going to struggle here but for a one person short stay it does the job.
I liked the comfortable beds, the shower pods are quite a fun idea and there is easy enough access to the western part of town (about 15 mins walk to the Central Station). There's 8 or so computers in the lobby for guests to use, and there's free WiFi (but see below). Cleanliness was excellent.
There's a couple of downsides. The check in desks are often overwhelmed with queues back to the door but that comes with the territory of a many roomed, very cheap hotel... to be fair, Wakeup helpfully provide airport style express check in/ check out kiosks but for some reason no-one seemed to use them, maybe they had complicated arrangements. I can confirm they work just fine. The breakfast buffet is a bit of a rugby scrum and there's not much of it (ham, salami, 1 cheese, some cereal and bread, 2 juices) but for 50 Kroner it was okay for value. WiFi didn't work for me, but seemed to work for some, maybe the signal was weak in my room.
It's only a 2 star hotel, so there's not much in the way of facilities. No bar, no coffee shop, no gym... as long as you know this and as long as you don't need much room it's a good choice for that end of town.
