My overriding memory of my first trip to Greece was everyone chuckling on the coach when the tour rep mentioned we’d be lucky to have a shower curtain in the bathroom in the hotels. This almost made me regret changing the usual All Inclusive choice and picking Self Catering after my better half had told me how much variety there was locally.
I needed have worried, the Hotel Elena is superb. The apartment was clean, mostly modern and spacious – and yes, the bathroom had a shower curtain!
We stayed for two weeks at the hotel, and the room was cleaned every day (apart from Wednesdays) by friendly hotel staff, who would always stop to have a chat with you, There’s a good size swimming pool which is cleaned every day by possibly the coolest robot in the world, and there’s plenty of sunbeds surrounding it (we never missed out on getting a sunbed).
The location of the hotel wasn’t a problem for us, it’s perhaps 10 mins walk (really relaxed amble) from the town beach, but it’s quiet and out of the way off the main road, which we really liked.
It’s got a bar which is usually manned by another friendly chap and offers plenty of variety of alcoholic and soft drinks, as well as food and ice-cream. Again the staff were always happy to chat, and whilst perhaps the maths skills weren’t always spot on, we weren’t ripped off and hey, it doesn’t matter you’re on holiday.
There’s a lovely sofa seating area next to the bar, in the shade if you need to escape the sun, and a full compliment of books, in various languages which was something I’d never come across – if you wanted to have a bit of a read.
They don’t serve food in the evenings, but with so many local restaurants and markets open in the area, and cookers in your apartment they don’t need too.
All in all, I would recommend Hotel Elena and I would definitely return to it when I next visit Greece.

Room Tip: Third Floor balconies are built into the roof so there's no shade, Front of hotel rooms are right on the road, rear of the hotel are quietest.

We have just returned from a weeks stay at these apartments and find it hard to believe that anyone has any complaints about them. They are a good size, attractive and in a fantastic location. Also, the pool area is lovely. Our apartment was on the first floor and we were glad that we weren't in one of the lower ground floor ones but it wouldn't have been the end of the world if we had been. The kitchen area is fine for preparing breakfast and lunch, much better equipped than other Greek apartments I have been in. True, you might find it tricky to produce an eleborate evening meal but several of the restaurants do takeaways if you don't want to go out. The walk into Parga takes about 10 minutes and there is a back way which is much nicer than the main road. If you don't fancy going into Parga, there are several really lovely restaurants within a few minutes walk. Parga itself is a lovely resort with a laid back vibe and there is plenty to do if you get tired of the pool/beach. The view from the castle is amazing and well worth the climb! We are thinking of returning next year and would certainly stay at the Elena apartments again.

Room Tip: I think the first floor is best, with a pool view.

Stayed again at the Elena from 11th September, would recomend these appartments they are just far enough out of town to walk in and near quite a few good restaurants on the walk down, the staff are very good as are the cleaning staff always very plesant and welcoming it was nice to see the same faces, would recomend shopping just down the road for food at Kudos, they will deliever and are so freindly, woukd go back each year to Parga and the Elena, thank you again to all the staff for making the holiday extra good.

A bit of curate's egg.

The good bits -
- Beds were comfortable
- Free wifi (in the bar area)
- Comfortable (covered) sitting area by the bar / pool
- Some of the rooms have nice balconies (but not our room)
- Quiet location
- Reasonable selection of restaurants and supermarkets nearby.
- No problems with sunbeds or sunshades, but it was late September

The bad bits -
- Very expensive (or so I thought) charge for aircon, at €42 per week
- A 20 minute or so walk into the centre of Parga, but a steady (but not steep) climb on the way back, which can take the edge of an evening
- Some of the rooms (including ours) are semi submerged basements, so no view and seemed to suffer worse from mosquitoes
- Maintenance of the rooms not great - broken blinds, light fittings falling off the ceiling, plug sockets only half fitted, broken waste in sink leaking over floor
- Poor attitude from management, for example not fixing the broken waste and in fact leaving it in a worse state than before it was reported
- Although adverised as 'self-catering', don't expect to do anything other than make a cup of coffee or slice some bread

Room Tip: Ask for a first (not ground floor) room.

We booked the Elena for our honeymoon and were there from 04th September for a week, it had been booked since April. It was only after booking that I found the reviews on trip advisor. I have to say that reading the very mixed reviews we were concerned about our arrival but overall any concerns didn’t materialise. The owner was there to meet us and we checked in at 11.00pm and picked up the room and safety deposit key without any problems.
Once we got to our room we were initially a little disappointed. We had requested a high room with a balcony but ended up with a ground floor with a sunken terrace although we did get used to it during the week. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable, the beds were exceptionally good. Everything worked and we had the usual small sized Greek bathroom, which was functional.
Unlike other reviewers we had no problems with the sun beds and always managed to get one when we wanted.
Reviews had also mentioned that the bar closed for a few hours mid afternoon, which is correct it closed between 1/2pm everyday, not opening until about 6pm. This was slightly annoying as you couldn’t purchase any snacks or drinks during that time and couldn’t have a drink after leaving the pool without going back to the room and sitting in a shaded sunken terrace.
However when the bar was closed we merely ignored the signs round the pool and brought drinks from our room. There was no one there.... no one knew! Other reviews were correct in stating that the choice of food from the bar is limited... to say the least!
The cleaners were good in keeping the rooms clean with sheets and towels being changed nearly every day. However the most annoying aspect was they were so noisy, shouting and shrieking across the 4 blocks early in the morning that continued until lunch time.
The apartments are located not too far outside Parga, perhaps a 10 – 15 walk downhill, (which means a 15-20 minutes walk uphill!) on the way back to the apartments, which in the heat of the day and after a night out can be a bit of a chore.
Notwithstanding this I would definitely recommend staying at the Elena if you visit Parga.
