Beyond photographing stunning white buildings all day, a top stay in Santorini will be actualised by delving slightly deeper into the island. This was achieved by our tour with Ruth and Dimitris - they were vibrant, knowledgeable, passionate, well-versed and utterly easy going. The day involved a delicious local lunch, great conversation and an insider view into magical parts of the island not many get to see. Highly, highly recommended and make sure you ask lots of questions - Ruth loves that :)

Our group of friends spent a wonderful afternoon with Your Greek Friend on a shore excursion. Ruth was great to work with to make arrangements via e-mail. Dimitris and Evangeli knew exactly where to take us to see the island and avoid crowds. We were able to visit two wineries, see the unique way grapes are grown, and taste amazing wines! We saw the whole island, beautiful views. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon!

It's one of the hardest acts to manage: how to go around sightseeing, and yet know what is worth looking at and what is best avoided beforehand. Usually this takes a lot of reading and preparation, which can make vacations appear like work.
So we were very pleased to find 'Your Greek Friend' for our small group of friends, which included people from Greece and abroad. After discussing the kind of things we were interested, they designed a custom road trip for us that included, among others, the archaeological site at Akrotiri, a visit at a local winery, and lunch at a typical Santorini house (with the family).
The people of 'Your Greek Friend' (Ruth, Dimitris and Vanda) live on the island and have access to everything the island has to offer. They are also flexible, giving one the freedom to choose and change one's mind. It was like visiting with local friends and learning about their beautiful island.

My husband and I booked a full day tour. Ruth and Demetrius were warm and knowledgable hosts. We gave them a little background information on ourselves when we booked and they ran with it. We started the day with them picking us up at our hotel in their Jeep, we drove to the middle of the island and got out and hiked through some foot trails through several small villages. We got to see how the locals lived and saw some beautiful truly picturesque areas that we NEVER would have seen if we didn't book this tour. We drove over to a small secluded black sandy beach along the way we got to see beautiful cliffs of pumice that were worn away in the most amazing way! We spent a little time swimming and taking pictures (they even treated us to a beer!). We then went to a small family operated beach diner (best way to describe it) and ate an amazing LOCAL Santorini lunch! Next stop was a road-side stand/restaurant that sold hand-made preserves (fruit, tomato paste, olive oils, Greek liquor, and more). We got to sample many of their made-in-house preserves and liquor and talk to the owner/mastermind. We truly felt like a local! They took us around the island suggesting places for dinner (that we tried and LOVED) that were really off the beaten path. The next stop was the Santorini Brewing Company (tasting room only) where we were able to sample their beers and buy some goodies to take back home with us! Finally, they took us to Gala Vineyard where we got a tour and a sampling of wines. They dropped us back at the hotel at dark where we actually hung out with them until past 11pm just chatting and telling stories. They went above and beyond in every aspect (they even booked us an ATV for the next two days since we knew where the good places were). From the great hospitality to their warm friendliness and making truly amazing suggestions. I would tell anyone travelling to Santorini to book them (on the first full day you are there so you can go to all the wonderful places they suggest) and for the full day too! There was not a moment that I was not grinning from ear to ear with these two.

As my mother and I got off our cruise to meet Ruth and Dimitri we thought there was no way we would be able to see everything we wanted in Santorini in just 8 hours, but, boy, were we wrong. Not only did we see everything Santorini had to offer, we saw it through the VIP experience. It was the little things that made our trip so great. Ruth and Dimitri truly know Santorini inside and out; they know the local places for the best food, wine, and shopping. Of course it was great to see Santorini geographically, but tasting the local flavors added depth to our experience. We stopped by a local restaurant where Maria was outside awaiting our arrival. We sampled her homemade tomato paste, marmalades, and jarred olives. I will forever recommend Maria’s tomato paste; it’s simply amazing. We, also, went to a local winery where we learned about the Santorini wine industry and then had a tasting. The wines were some of the finest we have ever tasted and we made sure to bring a couple of them home . We truly had a 5-star experience. We appreciated that Ruth and Dimitri built our itinerary around our likes and interest (unlike most tours you go on). Even though we saw Oia, Emporeio, Perivolos, Moni Profiti Ilia, Fira, etc., never did we feel rushed or even on a schedule! Ruth and Dimitri gave us a tour of a lifetime and I would highly recommend them to anyone visiting Santorini.
