My wife and I stayed at this hotel at the end of April - the first week of the summer season. From the moment we walked through the door we were made to feel special. Little things such as our cases being taken to our room whilst we were filling in the registration documents, and a bottle of wine and a basket of fruit waiting for us in the room.

The room we were allocated - room 516 - was okay, but nothing special. Unfortunately the lift was right next door - the shaft was actually behind our wardrobe. This wasn't a problem for most of the time, although one night we had a gaggle of women standing outside our door talking at the top of their voices whilst they waited for the lift. They showed absolutely no consideration for others.

Unlike the previous reviewer I didn't feel the pool area was that affected by the traffic noise. Yes, it's on the old main road into Rethymno, but it's not that bad.

And now for the outstanding feature of this hotel - the breakfast. There was something for everyone - a wide variety of hot and cold dishes.

Considering the price we paid for this holiday - we travelled with Jet2 Holidays - I believe we received excellent value for money.

I would have given the hotel 5 stars if we hadn't been allocated the 'lift room'. We were amongst the first visitors of the season and wonder why, when the hotel was relatively quiet, the management would allocate us one of their poorer rooms. Perhaps Jet2 guests always get the poorer rooms?

Stayed here for a week at the end of April 2016. Lovely hotel, great facilities and excellent position for beach, shops, tavernas & restaurants. Well equipped comfy room with sea view. Excellent value for half board, food was very good and staff very helpful.
Downside was you can't relax by the pool because of the busy road noise, it really doesn't stop, and smokers either side of our room meant the smoke and stink wafted into our room so we couldn't sit out on the balcony much and had to keep the door closed a lot!!!!! Wouldn't stay here again but that is purely because we do prefer smaller family run apartments, this was a last minute booking and worth every penny.

I'm rather late writing this review! We stayed in September, when the weather was quite warm enough for us. We were on a package, and chose this hotel for its location - not too far from the town centre, about 25 minutes at a gentle walking pace.

We never tried the hotel dinner, but we did breakfast by the pool every day - there was good choice and reasonable coffee. (The best coffee was extra, along with fresh juice if I recall correctly!)

We enjoyed the pool - there were plenty of loungers available, and a good choice of sunny and shady spots.

Everything was very clean, and the housekeeping was excellent. Our room had all the facilities we needed, and the front desk staff were helpful.

We first holidayed here at this (not too big) friendly hotel in the late 1990's we only managed 1 week so had to return the next year in order to see more of the Island. By this time the Minos the Island and the people had worked their magic and we have now holidayed at the Minos on more than 20 occasions. All areas of the hotel are exceptionally clean and the staff couldn't be more helpful, the pools are kept spotless as well. The Gala Night is always special and not to be missed.. Over the years we have seen big and little tweaks to improve not only the rooms but the public spaces also. The food is very good and varied with theme nights being featured. The beach is only 5 to 10 mins away and Rethymnon is 25 mins stroll on a recently refurbished promenade. Lots of friendly shops and tavernas and despite the current problems, not overpriced.
In a Nut Shell you could say...."The best things always come in small packages"

Room Tip: We always go for higher rooms with sea views

Minos hotel is 1 to 2 miles from the centre of the very attractive town of Rethymno and just a few hundred yards from the promenade and beach. Local buses stop about 50 yards from the hotel. It has two outdoor pools, a small one at the front and a large one by the bar and restaurant at the back. There is a small car park. We did not have a car during our visit, but the car park seemed full most of the time. However, it is fairly easy to get around by bus. The long distance bus station (for Xenia and Irakleo) is on the far side of the centre, some 2 miles from the hotel. The breakfast buffet was excellent, a good range of fruit, cereals, hot and cold dishes. The rooms are a decent size. Ours overlooked the pool at the back and had a patio area outside. There was some traffic noise as the hotel is on a busy road, but not really a problem for us. The free WiFi was very slow. We thought it was very good value and a good base for exploring the town and surrounding area.
