“A great great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2012

The hotel is run by an extremely friendly family. For an unsurpassed experience and a great comfort look for this place. All your requests are listened, well received and replied. Its incredibly convenient location in a quite corner of the Old City provides a perfect point to visit this beautiful and unlike many other Old Cities, extremely charming and lively area. We spent 16 days, which is a quite lenghty time to spend in any given hotel. But not in Casa Moazzo. Cabin bag travellers!, do not forget to add an extra luggage on your return as the quality shopping is very attractive. Check clothes, mugs, music cds, small olive tree woods items, soaps. Go to the sandy beach of 2km long for easy days. Rent a car for some days to visit, Chania and Elofonisi and nearby mountain villages of Rethimnon. Get back for dinner in almost any restaurant in this town. Stroll in tens of lovely and characteristic streets of Old Town each night. In short, Rethimnon and Casa Moazzo are a combined gem where we lived like a member of the community and left a part of our hearts.

Room Tip: They have six rooms and let Anna decide which suits the best to you.

We selected Casa Moazzo on the basis of Trip Advisor reviews, and it was even better than we expected. Our hosts Anna and Alexander were superb - friendly, helpful, with recommendations of places to visit and how to get there (we did not have a car); everything was done from the heart! Anna insisted on driving us to the bus station and helping us to buy our tickets when we were visiting Arkadi (a place which she recommended visiting), and having Alexander drive us with our luggage to the bus station when we were leaving. This was way beyond our expectations, but done with grace and pleasure by our hosts.

Our room was the lovely Aphrodite Room, which was very spacious and well furnished. The Coco-mat mattress is extremely comfortable and ensured a wonderful night's sleep each night. It was lovely to have a sunny balcony as well. Free wifi access was appreciated.

Breakfast was served in the delightful courtyard, with a wide range of selections of delicious local foods. The hotel is very well located in the Old Town, within a short distance of restaurants and places of interest. All the restaurant recommendations made by Anna were excellent.

We were very touched when our hosts presented us with a book on the Battle of Crete when we departed, as that had been the motivation for our visit to Crete in the first place. We take away precious memories of this special place and the people who run it with great love for their hotel and for beautiful Rethymnon. We would return in a heartbeat, and will certainly recommend it to friends, should they be fortunate enough to visit Crete.

In the heart of old Rethymnon, a neighbour of the cathedral, Casa Moazzo is a real find. From the moment we arrived Anna made us feel at home in this beautifully renovated Venetian town house with its hidden courtyard. Our accommodation in the Andromeda suite was stylishly furnished, spacious and comfortable; perfect for the 3 of us. Starting each day with a delicious buffet breakfast, taken in the quiet of the courtyard, this was the ideal base for exploring the area. We visited Chania, Lake Kournos and walked the Samaria Gorge. Anna is a delightful host, always having time for a chat, whether it was to give our son his first lessons in Greek or to provide invaluable assistance and advice about places to visit.
The location of the house is in the old town with no traffic (including your car!) so you park not too far away in the market place and make your way through the beautiful old streets. We arrived quite late in the evening and this was no problem. All the restaurants, old port and beach are all within easy reach.
We had booked 4 nights at Casa Moazzo and wished we booked more. We loved it and hope to return.

The intimate and stylish Casa Moazzo in Rethymnon surprised us by being a high point of our trip to Crete. We were heading to Knossos and then Chania, but stopped here along the way thanks only to TripAdvisor reviews, with no idea that the market, the restaurants, the old town, would all be so charming. Anna and her family could not have been more friendly, generous and hard-working..coming to find us on foot in a parking lot when we got lost, and personally cooking a lovely breakfast in the little courtyard cafe area. I have actually stayed as a guest recently in a royal palace, and the spacious room we were in here had that sort of gracious elegance, Yet it was all up-to-date and cozy. When we think of our trip to Crete, staying here comes out on top. Quiet, clean, beautiful, friendly but private. In the most central location imaginable. Lovely restaurants recommended by Anna. The only downside: impossible to find by car. In fact, cars do not normally drive into this part of the old town. Solution: Just park your car in a lot and ask Anna to come escort you!

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms overlooking the courtyard entrance.

We stayed with our friends in 2 of the rooms. We had Aphrodite, pictured on the website, with the red and white striped walls. It was one floor above the courtyard where we ate a scrumptious breakfast with fresh orange juice every day. Our friends had the larger suite across the hall from us, with a sitting room downstairs and bedroom up. It was huge and lovely and moderately priced for what it is. We saw a suite at the level of the courtyard that looked very large as well. I imagine they must all be wonderful.
The hotel is in the middle of the old town, so Anna came to lead us to parking, a couple minutes away, and take us right to the door while her husband took care of our bags. Once we settled in, she told us that she had this building that has been in her family renovated so she and her husband could pursue their dream of being hoteliers. Every detail is perfect. The baths have a shower tub with the most exquisite natural products. The beds are firm and fluffy, the best sleep of the 3 week trip. Breakfast was laid across the bar, but one day they made us perfect eggs!!! Anna and Christo, one of the staff, gave us excellent directions and advice for travelling around Crete. When Anna was there, she was always ready to stop what she was doing to check on us or offer us a drink, yet she remained totally nonintrusive.
Rethymnon made a great base and seemed to be a more pleasant city that Chania or Heraklion. The waterfront, just 2 or 3 blocks from the hotel, is full of amazing restaurants as are the streets just 2 blocks away. Of all the places we stayed in our 25 days, I think this was my favorite overall and I would actually come back. Parking was easy and inexpensive if you announced in the morning that you wanted to park for the day with in/out priveleges. Besides the awful souveniers, there were a few stores with regional products and cotton clothing nearby, lots of reasonable jewelry stores and some little specialty shops. There were also some closed storefronts reflecting the current economy. There was a great sense of safety and the people were friendly, open and very charming.
I wish Anna and Alexander the great success they deserve and unconditionally recommend Casa Moazza.

Room Tip: I didn't see a bad room. I did like the little balcony in Aphrodite.
