Made a special trip to Giorgos on the recommendation from Anna @ Diaos Cove- she said it was the best in the area for local food. It was a bit of a drive from our hotel- well we made a wrong turn & ended up in the hills then had to navigate down- but its not difficult to fine if you are on the right track. Plaka is a sweet little village a few min outside of Elounda. Just a few restaurants line the waterfront & we were able to find Giorgos right away. Great selection of fresh seafood in their display case (btw- LOTS of ice in there- something we really didnt see in other display cases) Fresh swordfish, snapper, lobster, sea urchin- anything you wanted & all caught off their doorstep. We ate outside along the waterfront which had a spectacular view of Spinalonga Island right in front of us. Ordered a LARGE beer & it was ice cold & delivered promptly. Decided to go with the calamari (im addicted) & it was fantastic- light breading & cooked perfectly. For lunch had the seafood pasta & it was divine- mussels, shrimp & chunks of snapper mixed in with home made pasta & a light tomato sauce- spiced perfectly & presented with care. The staff was very helpful & friendly & went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. When the beer was empty- I barely finished the last sip when I was asked "you want another"??? Perfect & YES PLEASE :) After lunch we were given a couple pieces of their orange cake...... OMG- the best thing I have eaten- it was full of orange flavor, was almost like a pastry/custard/chewy consistency- out of this world!!! I commented & they offered to give us more- but I declined- something a regret now.... Back & our hotel I looked up a recipe for Greek orange cake & am going to try it. I was told by Giorgos that its his grandmothers recipe- so getting it from them is probably next to impossible. Overall- a great lunch restaurant- Im sure its fantastic dinner as well & that whole village would be so beautiful @ night all lit up along the sea. When we go back- we will go back to Giorgos.
