Oscar Hotel
Ranked #111 of 282 Hotels in Athens

The Oscar Hotel is ideally located, 50 meters from the metro station Larissa. Once the visits are completed, we have benefited from the rooftop pool with views of the Acropolis maginifique. Staff helpful but this property would need to work as it begins to be outdated.
good value for money

Got there after midnight after taking bus #95 from the airport to Syntagma square (€5 each) then a quick taxi. (€10 although it is cheaper during the day) If you take the metro it is 8€ each to Larissa Station. Front desk guy and bellman were very nice and told me I could find a bite to eat around the corner (1.20 € hotdogs weren't too bad) since it was almost 1 am. There is also a gyro stand there during the day. It is also across the street from Carrefour grocery store.

Rooms- I would say the room was average for Europe, bed was ok, air conditioning was really really lacking and it would shut off randomly. Some friends of ours didn't have A/C at all. We brought a fan because other friends staying at the hotel told us how hot the rooms were. It was very very hot in Athens when we stayed so be aware.

Internet- There is no internet in the rooms unless you pay for it. There is spotty internet in the lobby, but it was deliberately shut down on us one night to get us and some friends out of the lobby.

Pool on the roof is great, water was warm and about 12 meters long.

FYI...for those who are missing Taco Bell while in Europe there is one in the Athens Metro Mall at the end of the Red Metro Line :)

It was a pretty nice hotel. We spent a total of 11 nights there, studying the Classics for a college study abroad program. The rooftop restaurant was nice; on our first night there, we got a welcome dinner with delicious authentic Greek foods. I did not get a chance to visit the pool, but I heard from my peers that it was nice. It was also right across from a Carrefour (like a European Wal-Mart) and right near a metro station, which was how we accessed almost everything in Athens. The neighborhood was relatively okay (run down, and dirty, of course, but hey, it’s the city), I never really ran into trouble. I even dragged a bag of laundry a mile down the street (in daylight) and back and did not have any trouble from the locals. For inside the room, the beds were relatively comfortable. Even though I have indeed been to Europe before, I can still never get used to the small hotel bathrooms that are so popular there. My only qualms with the hotel was when my roommate discovered a cockroach in the bathroom, paying for Wi-Fi, and a lack of well-placed outlets (there were scattered throughout the room in random places such as by the door or behind the TV).

The hotel was probably the most modern that we had stayed in throughout all our travels in Europe. The staff were friendly, and the service was great. The location was good and bad. Good being that we were right next to the metro, which is the best way to get around Athens at a cheap price. Bad due to the fact that it was a run down neighbourhood and our tour guide told us to stay inside after dinner as he couldn't guarantee our safety in that location. The meals were satisfactory but room quality and services made up for it. A pool is located on the roof for people who enjoy a nice swim. Overall a very pleasant stay.

We have stayed at the Oscar numerous nights over the past ten years. It has always been a clean, comfortable, safe hotel right around the corner from the Larissa Metro stop. However, traveling with student groups the food served to our groups was always lacking. Out of necessity we adopted a nearby taverna as our dinner spot when the Oscar's food failed to please. We were totally shocked on our mot recent visit when the usual slop had been replaced with fabulous Greek fare. Certainly not gourmet dining, but good enough and hearty enough to make those late night trips to the Tasy Corner taverna a thing of the past.

In a city sadly lacking in air conditioning, our rooms were adequately cooled. The in room fridge kept our daily water bottles cold as well. The bathrooms are clean and roomier than most European hotels. The front desk is knowledgable and helpful. Across the street is a nice, big Carrefours store loaded with cheap beverages and food.
