“Thesseion, the best preserved Temple in Athens”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2012

If you see it from a distance, the Temple of god Hephaestos (or of heroe and king of Athens Theseus? this is still arguable!) is more attractive and impressive than the nearby Parthenon, because the former is more whole, and less ruined than the latter.
This is explained by the more austere and plain decoration of the Thesseion, in which the human form is rare, so the early Christians (who were as zealot and as obedient to their god's commands as modern-day Taliban moslems) had not had much to efface before transforming the Temple to a Christian church dedicated to St George, until the liberation of Greece and the inauguration of Athens as its capital,in 1834. Hence Thesseion still stands almost whole and intact. At least we have this good specimen left to us, thank whoever god you prefer to worship...

“Dont miss the Temple”

Best preserved temple. Not as crowded. Go early - the area closed at 3pm the day we were there.

“Time machine!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2012

This is the most intact temple, and standing in front of it is like being in a time machine. The area surrounding the temple in Ancient Agora is nicely landscaped and signposted, with illustrations of the whole structure as it once was. While visiting, make sure to go to the adjoining Museum, which is included in your entrance price, and has some truly amazing examples of art, coin, and sculpture.

Really enjoyed walking around this temple which was in much better condition than the poor Parthenon which is getting restoration work.
