“Impressive villa, nice pool”
Reviewed 1 May 2017 for a stay in April 2017

We stayed in the Skylounge villa for a week in April, the villa is very impressive, very large and modern. We have stayed in 2 other villa's with pools in Funchal so were able to compare previous holidays. The villa was clean and well presented, the pool is a really good size but cool, we did pay for it to be heated but the weather wasn't very good during our stay and we needed the pool to be warmer than it was. The villa is well placed for Funchal, it is a 20 minute walk down a really steep hill, we walked down but got a taxi back! We enjoyed the games room in the villa.

“Amazing villa, great pool, brilliant service”

We've just come back from an amazing week at the sky lounge in Funchal. The house is fantastic and the photos probably don't do it justice, it is a really stunning house, kitted out incredibly well and in immaculate condition. There is loads of space so great for kids to run around, while the balcony and pool terrace are both great sun traps! It is as described in a residential area but only a 15 min walk from the town centre and 10 mins to a supermarket - and the bus stops outside the house. We got cabs back most evenings which were v reasonable - c. 5 euros (and I don't think I've ever seen more cabs per person in a town before so never had to wait!).
The pool was a real highlight - much bigger than most villa pools we looked at, long enough to do proper lengths and warm enough for kids to jump in (though heating the pool is an extra but worthwhile cost). Our 16 month old loved going up and down in the lift (and his grandmother found it very useful too!) and the games room/ pool table was great in the evenings.
Carlotta was very helpful - the only major thing the villa could do with is a bit more info in the house - e.g. Which switches do what for the lights and blinds.
But overall a stunning place, we had a great time!

“Villa Andrade or Skylounge”
Reviewed 18 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Skylounge or Villa Andrade is located in a residential area with no facilities such as food shops or restaurants within easy walking distance.

It is part way up a very steep hill and whilst the walk to the centre may be 800 metres - this is not a realistic option given the incline and the lack of a pavement in certain parts.

The only viable options for getting around are a hire car, or one of the local taxis.

All local residents seem to have dogs (often more than one) living in the yards of their properties barking at all hours of day and night. There is building work taking place in close proximity.

There is a stunning view of the town and the harbour from the balcony on the top floor and that the villa has plenty of space.

The design, layout and technological features (no guidance included) has the feel of a modern office rather than someone's house. There is no indication of which of the multitude of wall switches throughout the villa actually operates which blinds and which lights.

The amount of glass in the construction does mean you feel like you are living in something of a goldfish bowl yet, with the exception of the top floor, it is very gloomy due to the lack of artificial lighting.

Whilst the building has obviously been designed and constructed to a high standard and the fittings are of similar quality, other items such as the bedding, towels and the kitchenware are of poor quality .There is little enough kitchenware for 2 people, let alone 8.

The wifi signal is poor and does not work at all in the master bedroom. Whilst the villa does have cable installed there are no useful channels for someone from the UK.

The local representative, Carlota, is very helpful.

The villa is in a residential area, and the closest supermarket and restaurants are less than a kilometre away. Madeira is a hilly destination, and although a hire car is always a bonus, you certainly do not need one for this villa.
For those that do not want to walk back to the villa, there is a local bus service and plenty of taxis which are inexpensive.
We are not aware of any building work in the area.
The kitchen is fully equipped to cater for 8 people.
The linen is 5-star hotel standard with 400 thread count cotton bed linen and 600grams for the towels.
The comment regarding the weak Wi-Fi signal has been duly noted.
There is cable television which is obviously provided by a Portuguese company. There are approximately 200 channels, including two English speaking movie channels, Four channels with English speaking series, BBC entertainment, Sky news, BBC World, CNN, and many more.
Sky channels are not available legally outside of the UK (apart from Sky news), and even if it was legal, the satellite is not correctly positioned for Madeira.
Choice of villa style and decoration is very personal.
We are pleased to note that the local service of Carlota was appreciated, as we do make a point of ensuring personal service while in the villa.
