we stayed here for four days and thoroughly enjoyed the property. Irene was so helpful in directing us to restaurants, etc. the home is comfortable and super clean. there was a daily maid service as well that was a great touch. it was hot in Lisbon, but so cool and refreshing in Sintra! we needed sweaters in the evening! driving in SIntra is not for the mild of heart, but the home is close to all things. we walked up to Pena castle... that close.
A little challenging to enter driveway & park but the house is perfectly situated near Sintra which is a must area to visit with palaces, castle, walks & gardens to visit. The house was spotless, newly renovated and very comfortable with spectacular views. The only downside is the nearby dog rescue kennels where the dogs bark whenever anyone walks by and on our second night, neighbor's dogs barked into the early hours. The upstairs bedroom was the one most susceptible to noises.
Apart from the dogs, this is a great place to stay near Sintra and be away from the tourist crowds.
We stayed at Villa Maria for a week in August. The house itself is tastefully decorated, very clean and spacious. Irene was a lovely host, providing lots of useful information.
The house is located at the top of a steep set of stairs.Although a useful way to burn off all the holiday excesses, it would be a problem for anyone with mobility problems.
The house is a short walk from both the Pena Palace and Moorish Castle. A good selection of restaurants nearby, and a relatively easy walk into the centre of town.
Highly recommend a stay here!
A lovely retreat in Sintra! Feels like you are in a magical place, but just a few steps to walk into town, cafes, restaurants and all the action. Beautiful views, comfortable beds, great reading lights next to beds and very very clean.
As 3 women traveling together we felt safe, secure and cozy. Not an ikea laden interior, but one filled with family heirlooms and furniture---personal and unique. The bedrooms are spacious with good views and outdoor terraces from everywhere.
Two of our group walked up to the palace through an enchanted forest. Though we were only 3 the house could accommodate larger groups as well---we each had a private bedroom, which was nice. We also got to wash our travel-worn clothes from the in-house washer.
The best part are the owners, Irene and her husband are gems. They are kind, gracious and willing to help in any way they can. Irene even brought us a freshly baked breakfast cake that was still warm from her oven for our first morning---and she is a fabulous baker. Every request we had was graciously met, from the simple---best restaurants to a little more challenging---where to find a good yoga teacher. Though they rented us their home, we felt like a loving and caring family came with it.
