After a lot of walking and visiting some of the Sintra highlights, we wanted to go to this place for lunch because it was on a nice quiet spot and the menu looked good. It was just before 3pm and about three tables were occupied, one of them just before we arrived.
When we asked if we can sit and eat, the waiter said the restaurant is closed. When the fellow tourists (whom we didn't know) eating there objected and asked why, the waiter said he wants a break and kicked us out. Quite an unpleasant surprise, hence the bad rating.

The positives:
1) Very talented guitar player offering a great musical accompaniment to our meal.
2) Wonderful setting on a lovely terrace on a mild evening.

The negatives:
1) THE FOOD. For starters we had the King crab with artichokes (drowned in mayo - couldn't taste any crab) and scallops au gratin (decent). For main course my wife had the lamb chops that were cooked well but were served with microwaved rice and uninspiring boiled vegetables. I had the "duck with chocolate" - the duck was precooked and reheated which made it tough. The chocolate sauce was not a sauce, it was a slab of dark chocolate thrown in the microwave to melt and then dumped over the duck.
2) We asked for some ground black pepper. Initially we were given a salt and pepper set. When we gestured for a pepper mill, the waiter came back with a glass pepper shaker, the kind that you'd buy in a supermarket. If you're the kind of restaurant that dresses your waiters up in tuxedos and bow ties, you make sure that you have a pepper mill and not just a 1€ pepper shaker from the supermarket.
3) The bill was supposed to include a discount. It came without one because the head waiter said he forgot. It was eventually corrected however it left a bitter taste.

There was an overall lack of professionalism for a restaurant that tries to pass itself off as a high scale establishment. More attention should be given on the food and less on appearance. The only reason I gave it 3 stars instead of 2 is because the discount brought the bill closer to it's actual value. If I'd have paid the full price for this quality of food and service, I'd have been quite annoyed...

I booked the restaurant through the fork on trip advisor and had almost all items at 50% off. Food was very tasty the octopus was nicely grilled and soft. The sea bass was fragrantly grilled with olive oil and salt. The vegetables were very fresh as well. Enjoyed the meal with nice music and pleasant view by the window. Waiters were efficient and friendly. Would come back again even if there wasn’t 50% off! :)

My partner and I ate here today after advised by the Lisbon book by Marco Polo. We ordered a steak and tuna. The tuna was not pleasant, the whole meal was lacking in flavour. The steak was barley edible (very chewy!) and I wonder what cut it really was!? We did not order a starter but the waiter came over with a platter and asked if we would like any, say no, it's a rip off for 5 slices of salami and some bread. Better still, give it a miss. It's a shame as it was a lovely location, the food looked lovely but it was a disappointing experience. The waiting staff were very pleasant and the service was quick.

We were in Sinatra for the day and didn't want to eat at a restaurant on the Main Street which I find cater to tourists. Up a small street and stairs and we came upon Tacho Real. The staff were friendly and the owner waited on us. She was extremely friendly and helpful. We each had a different seafood dish and all were excellent. As was the bottle of white wine that was recommended and it's price was very good for the quality. Don't miss out on this place!
