Owner description: In 1846, a fabric production plant (Companhia de Fiação e Tecidos Lisbonenses) was created in Alcântara, Lisbon. The industrial complex spanned over a total of 23.000 m2 and was one of the most important undertakings the city had so far seen. Fifty years later, the company decides to move and, in its place, a succession of businesses such as industrial typographies took advantage of the unique location and facilities. Forward to the late 20th century and the location was an abandoned, run-down and decrepit inner-city area that desperately needed a makeover. A private investor decides to take on the challenge of creating something new out of almost one hundred years of history and the rest, as they say, is indeed history. Today, the space is home to more than 200 businesses ranging from cafés, restaurants, design houses, show-rooms, shops, offices, commercial spaces to other projects that link directly to the space’s unique cultural and artistic standing.

We went to the Cafe right at the entrance and had sangria while a band was playing it’s a nice place to walk around a little in the afternoon and have a drink or something to eat but not really for shopping.
It has a nice artsy/hipster vibe if that’s what you’re into

This place is probably the most popular in Lisbon, so we decided to pay a visit and see it by ourselves. And Yes I can confirm that You will see cool things around there, small shops with big variety of interesting stuff. The only downside is the prices in the restaurants - they are way above averages and the quality don't come on the same level as the prices.

So I would recommend to go there after you ate something in the city and don't spend to much money on cheap fast food for fine dining prices.

Otherwise there is to times when You can visit this place - day time for most of the tourists and night time for specials occasions or events. We didn't have more time to come there at the evening, but it should be cool thing to do it.

We came their via the miradouro with the sight on Ponte 25 abril and Cristo Rei.

We went their on easter sunday and there was a market with vintage etc.
You could also take a drink and eat at one of the restaurants. There is also a hostel and art galleries located.

This place very much reminded me of Camden Market in London. Had a very similar vibe - quirky stores, eateries and a small market inside an old warehouse - very trendy.

Unfortunately I had a very brief time here due to other commitments and would have liked to stay longer, I think you could easily spend 2 hours here, longer if you take a long lunch/dinner.

Definitely worth a trip, next stop down from Belém on the train. Fantastic array of quirky boutiques selling wonderful things from homeware to clothing. An amazing choice of eateries, plus lots of inspiring art work dotted around. Loved it!
