FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I'm not a fussy traveler and this is my first visit to Lisbon so I chose this hotel in mid-May because of its location, which turned out to be excellent. Metro entrance is just outside the front door (literally) and hotel is situated downtown-center, so it's within walking distance (1-6 blocks max) to many sites: including numerous restaurants; boutiques; pastry shops; Santa Justa elevator; Conserveria de Lisboa and waterfront. Ideal if you're limited by time, have children or limitations with mobility. I felt very safe during the day but the atmosphere changes at night like most city-centers with tourists: no less than three men approached me during my 7 min. walk home through crowds from a grocery store, asking if I wanted to buy drugs.
HOTEL: The major complaint I have is the air conditioning isn't working. I'm on the top floor (9) and the heat was over 30 Celsius (86F+) outside. The manager on duty gave me two options: move to a smaller room and lose the double bed (only twin beds left); or suck it up and wait until tomorrow because the weather should be cooler. I awoke to overcast grey skies and the room is cooler, so it appears that maybe he'd make a better weatherman. No A/C made the room, which is otherwise clean, a bit humid and carpet-smelly.
The room has a bit more than I would usually need: like a TV and bookshelf stereo unit. Tiny kitchenette is well stocked but there is no water in the fridge (they missed out on making a lot of money from me last night!) are there are no hangars in the closet - which is irritating. Small balcony is nice but the large ceramic tiles are in rough shape, some are missing. The website says there is no parking but I overheard another guest at the reception desk who made parking arrangements with this hotel. Internet is available but additional charge: up to 10 EURO for 24 hrs - or less amounts for fewer hours.
Coming to Lisbon not knowing what to expect, I'm happy with this location but I'm sure there are better hotel finds out there. Fortunately I don't spend much time in hotels!
