Four night long weekend, garden wing, river view. From an early check-in to a late check-out, nothing was too much trouble for the staff of this hotel. 5th floor bedroom, spectacular balcony view of the Tagus, luxurious bathroom and a bed so large we slept in separate post codes! Public areas reflect the hotel’s past as a Palace; gardens are beautiful and large pool area is great to unwind. Food is, as claimed, “Gastronomic” and the restaurant more than excelled both in quality and service. But, what makes this hotel special is that all staff genuinely put the customer first. Concierge, reception, F&B and facilities management are all exceptional in their individual roles but also form an outstanding team. One event, an act of “enlightened professionalism”, stands out and illustrates how the team add to the guest experience. It involved an observation by a maid, a swift reaction by her team leader, co-ordinated action by kitchen and reception and resulted in an unsought stunning chocolate torte with chilled espumante making a “happy-tearful” guest touched by genuine thoughtful hospitality. Past reviewers cite location, but this is a bonus as the morning noise is the dawn chorus, the river views and gardens are fabulous and taxis are inexpensive. The hotel is relatively expensive compared to more central competitors: but the memories are worth the difference. Thank you Olissippo Lapa Palace Hotel and personnel for the experience and a memorable weekend.
