Nice restaurant with outdoor tables in a very pleasant location. Lots of choice on the menu and good quality. Visited both for lunch and dinner as they have both a snack and full menu

We ate here twice on our holiday. We shared a pizza for lunch one day. The pizza was lovely with a nice thin base. It was a great spot for people watching, so we decided to come back for a dinner. We shared their house paella which did not disappoint. It was not your typical paella and there was more than enough for the two of us. This is not a foodie place as such, but does decent grub with pleasant service, not too expensive and nice views of whats going on.

Reviewing Restaurants in Portugal is not very easy for me as I am not a fish eater, although my wife does sometimes indulge. Fish seems to be a staple food of Portugal, and most restaurants have open grills for the cooking of the fresh fish that you have just chosen from the display/menu. So you may appreciate, that most menus are fish, dominated, with those that don’t like fish left with a choice of a handful of steak/pork items.

The other annoying thing, is if you have fish, it will come up with vegetables including boiled potatoes, whereas the meat eater only seems to ever get “chips”.

Starters, as such, are really a “no no” in most restaurants. Bread, olives, cream cheese and fish pate will often be put on the table. If you don’t want to be charged for these, just ask the waiter to take them back, otherwise, you will be charged.

So, after that intro, my report -

Palm Tree - dined as a couple 20th July 2017

A touristy restaurant situated among all the other touristy ones in the main road of Cascais. All the restaurants on this strip have outside dining on the high street, inside dining that goes through to the area at the back , which once again has outside dining.

The evening in question, was very chilly/breezy, so we chose to eat inside at the Palm Tree. We were led to a table in the bar which absolutely stunk of stale tobacco (they do allow smoking in certain bar areas). We immediately said “no” and turned to walk out. Then the manager appeared and steered us next door to the “non smoking” restaurant. This was acceptable, although for the first 30 minutes we were the only ones in it.

The menu is a long one, and more touristy, no locals in this place. I was tempted to have the suckling pig, which I was guaranteed would come out with lovely crackling, how wrong can you be.

Food at best was acceptable, prices at the higher end.

Beer, juice, starters, mains, sweets and a bottle of house wine €69, much better around at that price.

WE went here twice during our stay and we really enjoyed it. The first time we had fish and kebabs but we were envious of the steak that another table had so we decided to go back on our final night and have the steak. The steak came on a hot stone where you could cook it yourself which was the highlight on he holiday. The steak was also really tender.
