The food was really very well presented very tasty. They were even able to cater for vegetarian. They have a very good wine list, and we settled for a local sparkling wine which went down very with the food. The Fado itself was excellent and they introduced the piano and accordion into their show and it worked very well. I was very impressed with the whole evening

Staged in a small church that stands a few hundred years old, halfway up a hill in via an ally way in Coimbra my wife and I set out to enjoy an evening of food and most importantly Fado.

The setting
Fado being the sad and heartfelt music of a previously oppressed Portugal. The new generation of artist has carried on the tradition and what a tradition it is. Don't be fooled we walked around Alfama, Lisboa looking for live Fado only to witness most places advertising it however pumping Fado from the like of an iPod. The only places that actually have live Fado you have to make reservations. Fast forward a couple days later in to Coimbra, our ABnB host recommend we check out aCapella with the advice that we should make reservations. Following the advice we end up with front row seating. The best seats in the house.

Fado
As we are seated the options are presented to up. We go with the full course meals, me with the steak and ,m y wife with the fish selection along with a bottle of red from non other than the Douro region. As we begun our meal the show begun soon thereafter. This young but extremely talented group hypnotized the audience with the strumming of the Portuguese guitar and back up guitar accompanied by the exquisite belting of Fado... In 15 minute increments we are grappled from our food and drink to the stage. To ad the owner of aCapella joined in on the accordion and then on an elevated platform the piano.
The elevation of the acoustics in the old church was just right to exaggerate the sounds making you feel like your sitting in a massive concert hall. All and all an hour (segments of 15 min. on and 15min. off stage) of beautiful music and Fado! Bravo!

Food
The food was served promptly with olives, butter and fresh bread. Salty, sweet, and simple. Next came the mains. My wife with the traditional Cod dish, rice and traditional rice cooked with veggies and croutons and me with steak cooked medium rear with a creamy pepper sauce gravy and rice. Decent but slightly over salted. For desert we absorb a thick chocolate mousse. A little on the heavy side but chocolate none the less. The food was nothing spectacular from my perspective however it could have just been my dish because my wife loved hers.

With decent food and amazing setting long with mesmerizing Fado.....

If your in Coimbra I would highly recommend it... Reserve ahead of time via the FB page.

The environment of what used to be a Chapel seems to enhance the experience of the music. Even though it's laid out like a performance venue, the space doesn't feel too formal.
The staff were attentive and the restaurant offers a nice selection of local wines and free WiFi.
Probably the best option for Fado in Coimbra

Wonderful music and a great dinner. All of the group throughly enjoyed the evening, music and meal. It's a must see in Coimbra.

Overall the music was a nice experience, but the dinner was not worth talking about.
The prix fix was overpriced, over cooked, and simply not fresh. The desert was supermarket quality pudding mix. Better food was had in the local mall.
Consider having just tapas, they looked better.
