Had two pleasant nights in November. Room was clean and with breathtaking seaview. the bed was comfortable. Left the Hotel at 4:45 and they arranged a breakfeast buffet from 4:15. Price at the bar was moderate. You must have a car to get there. Taxi to Ponta Delgada was about 40 €

Had a pleasant one week stay in September.

The big plus of the hotel is its location. Far enough from Ponta Delgada for a peaceful stay, but close enough to easily drive into Ponta Delgada (15 min) if you care. Located in the middle of the island so neither East nor West destinations are too far away. Above the ocean and close enough to hear the waves. Great and private view of the ocean from my room on the upper (third) level; I would imagine that the view is also nice and the balconies similarly private on other levels; in any case all rooms are oriented towards the ocean. The best part for me was that you have direct access to the rocky shore via an idyllic garden. Not one morning that I did not enjoy walking down there irrespective of the weather.

Otherwise it is what you would expect from a large, well run four star hotel. Always friendly and helpful reception desk. Spacious lobby. Sufficient parking (you will need and want a car). The buffet breakfast offered most of what you’d anticipate, plus a great view; juice and coffee from a machine only, though. Tried the restaurant for dinner a couple of times and was not disappointed; you can eat a la carte, if you are not in the mood for buffet again in the evening. The pool area looked nice, but I visited the island for other reasons. My room was very clean and the cleaning staff did a good job. Given the proximity of the sea and the general humidity, it is difficult to avoid that the air in the room becomes a bit stuffy until you open the terrace door. I felt this was normal and did not notice any odours. One could turn on the air conditioning, but that would not seem a good alternative to the pleasant ocean breeze.

My room was located close to the restaurant and on the balcony I heard the kitchen’s ventilation all day (and evening), rather disturbing in an otherwise very peaceful setting. Something the hotel needs to improve, but overall not a reason for a downgrade. Maybe ask for a room further away from the restaurant.

It’s not a cozy little getaway, but nevertheless a place where you are happy to arrive and unhappy to leave. Would stay there again on my next visit to Sao Miguel.

Very nice hotel resort outside if Ponta Delgada in Sao Miguel. Rooms are clean and up to date, beds are comfortable. Excellent pool, access to the ocean, and beach is a short block away. There is not much close to the resort, so get a rental car to see the island and drive to food outside the resort. The restaurant at the resort is fine, though it was buffet which is generally not my preference.

Stayed here for 4 nights. Nice rooms, all seaview. Large pool and very clean hotel. Good price in the restaurant and nice staff, but our last night they were not so helpfull. Drinks included with buffet, they serve loads of wine if you don't say "stop".
Close to the hotel there is a nice beach and don't forget to walk down in the garden towards the sea.
Small fridge in the room, not possible to make coffee of tea.

We had an amazing stay at the Caloura Hotel. The staff was tremendously helpful with our daily activities. The rooms are fairly standard but nice, quiet, and clean...and with an amazing view. The nightly dinners are affordable (buffet is a little pricey but the a la cart is totally reasonable) and excellently prepared. They were kind enough to provide us with gluten free bread (and it was actually amazing!) as my wife has a gluten allergy. And we got to watch a beautiful sunset from our table every evening.

The surroundings of the hotel are so beautiful. It is situated on a cliff with an easy path down to watch waves crashing on the rocks below, filling the tide pools. There is an equally easy road down to two small but pristine beaches, a 3 minute walk away. (NOTE: there is no lifeguard at these beaches, as they are smaller, but there is a beach and pool with a lifeguard on the other side of the small town.)

Room Tip: All rooms have a good ocean view. But if you want a better view over the cliff, request a second or...
