Really enjoyed my stay at Hostel 33! Super close to the train and bus station, with easy access to the airport. Staff we very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Clean and tidy with comfy beds. Lockers for hire in rooms which was nice and 24 hour reception is always good! Great breakfast included and the 5 euro dinner was FANTASTIC - sangria included! Recommend.

I had a great time at this hostel. Even in the low season, there are enough staff who work there, always up for hanging out with the guests and creating a good atmosphere. It never feels dead or empty, there's always a good time to be had :) They're also really helpful if you need any information about the city, or things to do. The design of the hostel is really cool too, I loved the mozaics around the place, and the artwork in the reception was amazing. Facilities were great, everything was clean, and the rooms were good. I'd definitely stay here again in the future!

The hostels are all using work away volunteers. They are young, single and full of energy. They may be unorganized but it's okay. This hostel is clean, has 3 bathrooms with showers. Was never a problem. It was unbearably hot one night. They need window or ceiling fans. Will stay again in future.

Horrible stay.
small stifling hot rooms with no air cond
Male staff unwelcoming and irrespectful : played football in the corridor until 2am bouncing the ball against our bedroom door.
No key for the main door nor the room doors so everything is opened, not safe at all. Stay does not check who comes in.

All in all, a shame. The hostel is ideally situated 5min to every main thing (City center, Marina, Bus and train station) so amazing emplacement.
However in front crosses a main road going in and out of the city so it's very busy even in the middle of the night, this gets very noisy (+the planes) and impossible to close the window as there is no air cond. Our dorm couldn't find sleep before 2-3am and gets woken up at 7-8 max due to lack of fresh air and noice + the staff who doesn't respect night hours + door bell that can ring at anytime because clients do not have a key to let themselves in. Very small kitchen (more then 3-4 at the same time is not possible)
It could have been so much better, shame. Just add air cond so that customers can close the windows

The only real problem with this hostel is that it is staffed by young people who are on holiday there themselves. I assume they get their food and accommodation for free in exchange for their services in looking after the hostel. They stay a couple of months or so ergo by the time they are fully trained they are preparing to leave. This means that there are lots of staff, but unfortunately they are staff who don't really know what they are doing, so you can expect mistakes and mix ups with you're booking. A lot of what goes on here is for the benefit of those who work at the hostel, and not for the benefit of the guests.

The kitchen is very small, and in the evenings the staff will be cooking their own dinner, so do not expect easy access to cooking facilities, or space in the fridge. They will however encourage you to join them for dinner ( at a price ).First class breakfast looked nice, but it is for staff only. They will however put out some stale bread and jam for you each morning. You will also have to listen to their internal bickering but if you are bored you may find the power struggles an interesting psychological observation.

You really are in the lap of the gods, because the quality of your stay will depend on the actual individuals who are in charge when you visit.

Despite the problems the management system causes, the hostel still manages to function fairly well. I have stayed here a few times and will continue to stay when I am traveling through Faro. It is always clean and is very well located. Both the bus terminus and the railway station are only a couple of minutes walk. The staff have usually been willing to help with local information etc, but because they may be new to the area, will not always be knowledgeable.

The owner is usually available during the mornings and is generally very helpful.

Top thing about this hostel is that it has its own cold beer tap !!

Room Tip: Best accommodation is reserved for the staff.
