“Good place to stop off”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2012

we stayed with friends in July 2012 on the way to a villa for 5 nights. Excellent accommodation(all new bedrooms) in superior room with good pool plenty of room. Very small town around(Estoi) so need to drive to restaurants etc. Breakfast very good dinners not quite as good as we expected but OK.

First class hotel set in the hills near Estoi, overlooking Faro, which is about 10Km away,

A beautifuly restored former derelict palace blended with newly completed modern accomodation and pool/spa area. Absolutely spotless and well kept.

Stayed for a week. The palace houses several lounges and a restauran/terrace area. Breakfast and evening meals are of an excelent standard and the evening set menu is also good value. Poolside snacks a little expensive. Staff really good and always helpful. Bedrooms very modern, good AC, TV and shower, although the beds are a little firm. We had a 'superior' room on level 3 with fantastic views, an afternoon sunny terrace and these rooms are also on the pool/spa level. The other rooms are on two lower levels.

A very rural location with not too much nearby. A hire car is almost essential. The local village has basic needs and (2) pharmacies.

This is a very unique place. The standards here are high - you are unlikely to find too much to complain about - well worth a try if you want a quiet relaxing stay in nice surroundings and good food.

Room Tip: Choose level 3 superior room for view, sun and easy access

We received a very warm welcome on arrival. Rooms are modern and spacious. Television was very small for the size of the room. There seemed to be a shortage of staff and the staff that were there worked long hours in different roles. This was probably the reason that some seemed lethargic and unhelpful. Food in the restaurant was good but the service poor. We didn't see any sign of a manager during the two day stay. The location is excellent with lovely views to Faro and the Algarve coast. What remains of the old palace is beautiful but the modern furniture looks out of place. Overall we enjoyed our stay but would are unlikely to return.

Extremely comfortable hotel with a great pool charming gardens a great restaurant and really helpful staff. The place was spotless and well maintained we couldn't really ask much more of a hotel.

We stayed in the "superior room" and were very impressed, the room was huge. Set in a grand designs style modern rooms and a carefully restored palace and gardens which served as the restaurant bar and salon. The restaurant itself has a magnificent view out over the town and surrounding landscape looking out to sea (on a good day).

There is a fantastic pool area, with three pools, a half sized pool, an one indoor, and a kids pool. There are plenty of sun loungers and a bar, there is a small gym.

The hotel gardens are very impressive a nice place to wonder around or relax.

Breakfast was simply fantastic, there was loads of things to choose from. The selection of meat and cheese cereal, English food, bacon and eggs, pastries and cake.

The hotel is located in the Town of Estoi about 10km from Faro. The town itself is quiet and relaxing with several nice cafés. Within walking distance there is a Roman ruin which is certainly worth a visit. There is a regular bus service or you can take a taxi into Faro or Olhão.

Was at this hotel on Friday and Saturday night for a friend's party. Best party ever in a magical setting. Beautiful rooms on the side of the main house and a lovely pool area with the biggest Jacuzzi I've ever seen (swam in it!). Was a little short staffed especially at the bar but the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast very good - lots of choice...nice pastries! The main house is stunning and has beautiful white and blue tile work and lovely gardens. It is hotter up here than on the coast so bring a higher factor sun screen and stay out of the sun at peak - easy to do this as there are a few wonderful little cafes in the village which do good value lunches and drinks. Mini bar is a bit of a heart attack so don't bother spending 4.5 euros on a small tub of pringles when you could walk to the supermarket and stock up on Ruffles ham crisps (the best ever crisps, crunch fans!). All in all an awesome place to have a party or just a romantic weekend away. The roman villa is worth a look and 10-15 mins walk from the hotel.

Room Tip: A room on the same floor as the pool gives you a nice terrace and easy access to the spa etc.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The luxurious Pousada de Estoi, the Estoi Palace, born out of the recovery of an old eighteenth century palace, is located in the village of Estoi only 10 km from Faro. This palace once belonged to Jose Francisco da Silva, Viscount of Estoi, and was opened in 1909. In 1987, it was purchased by the Town Hall of Faro, and in 1977, it was considered a property of Public Interest. A project by architect Goncalo Byrne, this hotel in Faro has a Health Club where you can enjoy a Turkish bath, sauna, tropical showers and heated indoor pool with a whirlpool. In a region with great gastronomic traditions you can find the Visconde restaurant, one of the Algarvian establishments which include fish and fresh seafood. The whole menu is inspired by Portuguese cuisine and exhibits a genuine form of art for good eating. Don't miss out on the deserts from Algarve made with figs and almonds grown locally. Experiencing the Pousada de Estoi is a pleasant journey with a combination of the classical, Baroque and contemporary elements that will definitely be a memorable experience. ... more   less
