There are lots of places you can stop and have a lovely meal or drink while looking at beautiful old white houses around contrasting perfectly with deep blue sky, sometimes coloured by blooming shruds of bougainvillea. Or you can go to local museum, nicely air-conditioned, to have some culture experience. Tourist information office is there too, so you can also ask for some tips there - they speak perfect English.
At night there are concerts of fado on certain days in some restaurants as well.
It's literary a few steps from the ferry stop, so if you want to go to the beach after a walk in the city, it's perfectly suitable.

lovely narrow streets to wander round and only a short walk from the marina. Leads up to the cathedral. Bars and cafes so you can get a drink or something to eat

Great and interesting city. Eating Algarve tour was fantastic. A must see and experience. The guide was very informative.

Very relaxing walk through the old town. Loads of places to stop off for a cold drink and fine food.

Love the flooring - all mosaic patterns. So many back streets to explore and little quaint shops to visit. Plenty of souvenirs to be bought. You could spend an entire day walking around if you like, but a half day or a morning will suffice. Walking tours sound good, but we didn't bother. Just used google Festival F was on during our stay, so even more to look at. Keep your eyes open for wall art, floor art and stalk nests. And watch your step.
