“Hotel character changed but don't be put off”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

Went for a 4 day break at the end of March. Weather lovely in the UK but the first morning we were awoken by a thunder storm.
We have been here before when it was classified as "Thomson Gold" but they were not there yet. We found the quality of the hotel as good as when Gold, but the clientel had changed, mainly French and some Canadian. As we tend to keep to ourselves this was not an issue.
The hotel was not full and we had a lovely room on the top floor overlooking the pool.
As it was not full there was a reduced selection of food particularly for the evening meal but the quality was as high as ever.
The other change was the quality of the evening entertainment, they only had an act on Saturday and Sunday.
Hugo's bar was again our source of lunch, nice to see Jose and family, what a lovely hard working couple, we hope the birth of their new daughter has gone ok.

Just a last minute trip to Portugal. The hotel is in a quiet location with a bit of a trek to the beach but the hotel has a free bus which travels daily. Plenty of sun beds, nice pool and gardens.
The food was quite amazing with a large cheerful chief who would greet you each evening with a firm hand shake! the salad buffet and deserts were as good as we have had anywhere on holiday.
The main hot meals were mostly very good but lacked variation. The area is good for walking with Villamora within easy walking distance along the beach or along a cliff top footpath once you find it.
Also other villages close by, Albufeira is also within walking distance but a bit more effort needed.
The area around the hotel is quiet with a few restaurants dotted around a lot off apartments in
the area .Overall quite a pleasant break.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the pool area for the afternoon sun

This hotel ,is set in a very nice garden .A large pool with plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas to rest in. There are a number of private villas in the area surrounding it.
Staff are helpful ,especially in reception. It has an attractive restaurant where the executive chef personally greets all diners. A good buffet and selection of sweets and cheeses. However the main courses although wide in variety lacked a little imagination , Too many dishes served in sauces and not enough plain and simple fish. Wines are reasonably priced.
The rooms are well set up particularly the Junior Suites, and maid service was of a good standard.
There is a good selection of local shops ,bars and restaurants and it is only a short taxi (or Bus) ride to Abufiera Town.

On the whole a quiet and pleasant area to visit

Room Tip: Get one overlooking the pool , The sunny side But not close to the Evening entertainment stage.

Plus: Excellent rate included buffet breakfast. Helpful staff.

Minus: A little of of the way of anything else, room stunk like bug spray, windows needed cleaning.

I have recently been here for my honeymoon with my new husband, we were told it would be full of daytime and night time entertainment, there was no entertainmaent at all apart from an old man playing a keyboard (if you can call it playing).
There is also nothing much outside of the hotel either, a couple of restauants and one bar.
As much as this hotel is for adults only it was not for a young couple like us either.
We were also promised champagne and flowers on arrival which we didnt get either.
Our holiday rep didnt really have a clue about anything either and looked like she wanted to cry everytime someone spoke to her.
We will both remeber our honeymoon but for all the wrong reasons, thankfully we get on VERY well because with nothing much to do and nowhere to go you have to entertain yourself.
To be honest I cant believe all of the good reviews.
The staff in the bar were lovely.

Room Tip: Dont bother with the junior suites

Dear Guests,

Thank you for writing the comments and we are very sorry to see that you have not enjoyed your holiday. It is that much more disappointing as it was your honeymoon.

It is a pity that you have not brought your disappointments to our attention while still staying with us as we would try our very best to do our at most to help you. However, thank you for your compliments to our bar staff.

We would always suggest to all our customers to do some research about the destination and the hotel and collect as much information as possible. It is always much easier to match you expectations with the reality.

The location of our resort is very important in order to deliver the peaceful and tranquil holidays with totally relaxed atmosphere. For that reason we do not except children under 16 years of age and it does not mean no entertainment, but quite opposite – its plentiful but adjusted to our concept . Have to say there quite a few restaurants, bars, shops, supermarkets and a chemist in the resort while if somebody desires great night life would only need to take about 10 minutes taxi ride to Albufeira - the capital of Portuguese tourism where the selection is enormous. Vilamoura is not that much further away and yet – if you are after real rest –it is all waiting for you in the Falesia Hotel.

There must have been some misunderstanding somewhere but Thomson Gold only starts from the first summer arrival in May and this is very clearly explained in Thomson literature as well as our own website.

We are very sorry to see that you have not received your gift as honeymooners. It is unfortunate that the information was not passed on to us but if you would have known about it, we would surely be able to rectify that misunderstanding. Sincere apologies, again.

Once again, we are very sorry that you honeymoon did not go the way you expected it but we can assure everybody that we always try and do our very best to make sure our guests enjoy their stay with us.
